    Windows 8 issues! (I am a newbie)

Hello, I am currently facing some issues, it's my first day with win 8.1. My anti virus is not here anymore (As it was on my previous OS, Win 7, quickheal anti virus)2. Nvidia panel is missing (GeForce Experience). Also when I did a test of my pc specs, it didn't even identified the NVIDIA graphics card, GT6103. Cant understand which resolution will be suitable for my pc. It looks like as if it is of cheap resolution. I'd like to have my previous resolution I used on Win 7 but can't actually remember it4. At the startup the PC asks for either Win 8 or 7 how can i set it to 8 only..5. When I turned off the PC, it at an instant showed up "Power Saving Mode" as it used to do when I shutted down back when I had win 7 but this time it had happened very quickly and the processors didn't stop "they make a sound while they are running"Kindly help!

Did you upgrade from 7 or installed 8.1 clean and on different disk partition ? Sounds like later happened and no proper drivers were installed.

Yes. I guess that's the main issue perhaps. I upgraded from Windows 7 to 8.1. And when I was at the "choose the disk" option, I tried to choose Local disk C but it said that it should atleast have 12085 MB space free whereas it had only 8.3 GB free, so I chose disk D..

You could put bandaids over it, but your best bet is to back up your data (should have been done already before your upgrade) and do a clean install of Windows 8.1. Then you will load the latest drivers for your system, and I should mention that it would be a great time to switch to a better AV solution as well.

Well, in that case, you didn't upgrade 7 to 8.1 which got installed on second partition. If you upgraded all your drivers, settings and programs would be kept. If windows 7 is not damaged, you can make some space on W7's partition and try again, this time making sure that 8.1 goes in the partition where 7 is installed.

As far as I know, you can't directly "upgrade" from Win7 to Win8.1 -- in the sense that you can keep apps, settings, and data. MS considers Win8.1 a different version OS than Win8 and has traditionally only allowed updates from one version to the next.

See the "Will I be able to keep my file ...?" in the linked MS thread: Update to Windows 8.1: FAQ - Windows Help
