amazingly hard to find this! i have a yoga 2 11 that I have been running windows 10 on since the 'git go'.
i asked on a yoga thread what version of windows 8 the machine originally had an nobody actually knew
I'm guessing it would be in bios but readable?

anyway, anyone know how to do this?

It shows you the edition of the currently installed OS I think, not the OS that came with the computer.

My Lenovo came with Windows 8. I used Pro Pack to upgrade to Windows 8.1 Pro.

Showkey.vbs shows Windows 8.1 Pro, not Windows 8.

Edit: The Lenovo web site says:

It has come a long way since showkey.vbs
There has been many revisions to the newest showkeyplus.exe

I have ShowKey v1.3.vbs. I'll see if the one you mention is available.

Found it, works great. Thanks for the info. Shows original and upgraded info correctly, very nice.

That's one of the drawbacks to the embedded key. The COA sticker just says Windows 8 or Windows 8.1. That doesn't tell you if its 8.x Single Language or 8.x (Core). Assuming Pro COA stickers say 8.x Pro on them. If they don't, add it to the list or possible installed OS. If the PC has a non functioning OS on it that you can't boot to, or anther OS installed, it can be hard to figure out what version of 8.1 to reinstall. 8.1, 8.1 SL and 8.1 Pro each have their own set of product codes that are not interchangeable. Install the wrong one and you get asked to type in a Product Code. You OEM embedded key won't work as its already be rejected, that's why your being asked to type in a key. install the correct version and no prompt for a key and it activates automatically.
