Windows could not automatically detect this network proxy

    Hi,

My internet explorer/Chrome suddenly stopped connecting to internet and when i click on diagnose connection i get Windows could not automatically detect the network Proxy settings.

I have checked the IE LAN settings and it has "Automatically detect settings" set. The Proxy server is unset. I am not sure what caused this. Tried restoring it to earlier restore point but that did not help. Tried releasing ip and renewing it, netsh commands, etc.. nothing seem to work.

I also ran the Malware bytes , Mcafee and found no infections. Would really appreciate if anyone can please help me out.

Get rid of McAfee. It tends to cause more headaches than it is worth. You also cannot run two different security software at the same time.

I am able to connect to internet via Skype but not through browser. I also tried disabling McAfee but still does not work... Everything was working fine till yesterday night, when an auto update was applied.

Have you already tried accessing the internet in Safemode with Networking? If you can access in this mode, then a software / application is conflicting with your browser's proxy server.

I have a Linux Centos server with Samba configured. On the other workstations (XP and Windows 7), the server is shown under Network (centos5); not with my Windows 8 workstations. If I map the network drive (e.g. \\centos5\www\), I have full access. What might I be missing? Todd

Hi, I am having a strange issue with my windows 8 pc as it sometimes doesn't detect any network present and i have to restart it again to get the network. The issue happens usually every time i boot. But restarting once solves it. Any help?
Pretty much says it all, upgrade from Win 7 was dropping connections but after I disabled allow the computer to turn off the wireless it doesn't drop the connection but I have to manually connect it every time I boot or logout/in. Netgear Rangemax Wireless-N Dual Band USB if that makes a difference.
