HDD got frozen need help badly

3days ago..
i woke up then opened my acer aspire v5 laptop on my sleepy head i saw nothing but loading screen.. checked the bios and i can see the HD FROZEN! tried everything possible and what i can find in the Web.. acer recovery wont show up (alt + f10), CMD showing X: and when i use diskpart show X: and only the D drive(its the cdrom), tried refresh from recovery say driver locked and used the remove HDD and boot with no HDD tried everything i can find sadly cant fix it.. can someone help me on this..

Did you try taking the cover off of the bottom of the laptop, to see if you can hear it spin up? If not, yes it is dead and now all you can do is go get a SSD to replace. Your battery will last longer with the SSD, than the Platter.

Unless there are really important documents on that drive. Sending it off for data recovery is pretty costly.

tried it and yes it is spinning.. nothing that important..

If its spinning but still not reading, I wonder if the heads failed for some reason, or if the controller PCB on the drive itself died. Either way the thing to do would be replace the drive.

Umm, you booted into a recovery with a command prompt?

Did you use a recovery on a CD or a USB device

You can get the Crucial M500 240 gb SSD for a really good steal these days. Newegg.com has some deals. Amazon is running a sale on July 15th for Prime members.

Under some conditions my bios will say that the Hard Drive password is "frozen", is that what you are seeing? If so then it may be waiting for a password. Are you seeing a small dialog in the middle of the screen? If so, (possibly hit enter first) enter the password. Here is some help from acer on clearing this condition:

if i change the HDD do i still need to buy a windows 8 format disk or can i use it straight on my laptop and would it automatically install from there?

No you do not need a new key. I actually use EaseUS Todo Workstation in these kinds of instances. Especially that you are going from one size of hard drive, to a different size.

Most installs of 8 I have cloned, are not even 100 GB. Last one I did was maybe 85 gb in size.
