Strange Symbol on Time Display Screen

So, what happened over the past few days have been a lot. The first that I notice after having my computer on for only about 30 minutes ( of playing Minecraft ) I started to smell this weird burning smell. After smelling the smell, I immediately turned off my computer because even I know a burning smell is not a good thing. So I went on my tablet and looked at a bunch of related forum posts about the burning smell and I realized that it had something to do with the PSU so I ordered a new one. I installed the PSU earlier today, with some difficulty (I am very inexperienced with computers). I start up my computer and everything seems normal until I get to the time display screen. The little symbol at the bottom had a little white wheel that was spinning and then turned into a red X.

Long story short: This weird symbol does not allow me to go to the log on screen and I am very confused.

I am so sorry if someone already has a thread and solution, I am new to this forums and have not had time to look for a problem thread similar to mine. Side Note: I apologize for my dirty screen.

Your Operating System is actually version 8.1. You haven't filled in enough of your System Specs to help.

Generally the smell of fried electronics and presence of smoke means a trip to a repair shop. It could also mean a new computer. Some of the parts involved could be the power supply, the motherboard, the graphics card if separate from the motherboard, the RAM modules, the CPU, just to name the major parts.

Boot your Windows 8.1 install DVD/flash drive, take the Repair your computer path then Command Prompt.
Find the drive Windows 8.1 is on as it may not be C:

Run chkdsk or SFC

• Eenter bcdedit and look at the osdevice line to see what it is.
• For chkdsk, type chkdsk c: /r and press Enter (use the letter from above if not C: ).
• For sfc, type sfc /scannow /offbootdir=c:\ /offwindir=c:\windows and press Enter (use the letter from above)
• Let either run to completion undisturbed.

I have always used Wifi so the fact that it is saying that I have no Ethernet connection is weird. I do remember restarting my router after the problem with my computer happened, could that have anything to do with it?

My computer doesn't seem to want to run the disk, any solutions?

I don't know as I use mobile broadband USB with my Win8.1 PC. I just knew what the symbol meant.

So you have a Windows 8.1 install DVD? Retail or did you burn it yourself?

Does your DVD drive work at all?

That will show you how to boot the disc. Then take the Repair your computer path on the 2nd or 3rd screen.

I wouldn't force using that computer without complete checkup of hardware, if that icon and smell/smoke is anything to go by, your network or WiFi adapter is probably fried and can do even more damage if you insist on running it.
