I downloaded the right file. But the 3 programs that were junk showed up first... I deleted them from the uninstall programs and then found the other program on the desktop but took it off too. DUh!!!!

Nothing but the Recuva program downloads via the link Brink posted. I just tried it.

That's correct, it's free so there is no support. What is your point?

I was on the right site. You didn't specify so I used the FileHippo to download it. No biggie. I appreciate your help....Eileen

I still don't get what you are trying to say. It was the free version I recommended to use.

is free wing program something worth checking out?? I'm using testdisk 7 photorec right now recovering a 4 Terabyte drive I screwed up big time.. haha

it appears to be working.. but maybe freewing.exe is a little more easier... who knows.. never heard of it..

I don't like recuva for this reason. below.

as opposed to what? of course I want to scan for deleted files!? why would I turn that off?? and to show securely deleted files?? no don't show me them if you can't recover them!? right??

It says "Scan for non-deleted files", not deleted files. I think that means (as shown) files that were not specifically deleted but the partition/drive was formatted. Perhaps different to locate than deleted files????

Some download sites are very misleading (little short of scams) --- if you click what appears to be the most obvious download link you dont get the program you wanted but something (or many) things. I used to be troubled by this a lot so I sympathise with Purplelover. I dont often have the problem now and can only think it is because (a) I mainly use recommend sites from reputable sources (such as Forums like this) (b) I study the download page carefully to see if what should be the obvious button at the top of the page is in fact hidden away elsewhere.

Filepuma by Glarysoft is an excellent download site and tells you, for each program, whether there is a an issue such as 'bundleware' or risk of viruses. Recuva is available there and it is checked as not having a bundling or other issue, although as has been said the publisher's own site, Piriform (the creators of CCleaner) is a good site to use.

    I think Purplelover
should report his experience to FileHippo. I have not used the site myself but it looks like s decent source of programs to me, except that it is heavily reliant on 'in your face' advertising (ulike Filepuma) which I do not like and arouses suspicion. I once had the experience of being swamped with junkware while trying to download a utility from a highly respected source, a major computing magazine, and became convinced that the download page had been hijacked by scammers. Such activity does damage to worthy organisations
