I am able to pin MS Excel or MS Outlook to the task bar by any of the three methods.
You and see and use the newly pinned shortcuts as long as you do not shut down you PC.
If you turn off the PC/Laptop the icon is still on the taskbar but it comes back with an error message that it can not find the application and asks if you moved the shortcut.
I have been living with this issue since I installed 8.1 and I am up to date on Google Chrome and Windows 8.1 versions.

Thanks for any help, :(

Mike

An easy way to pin to taskbar is to open something & right click on the icon in the taskbar & click "Pin to taskbar".

Hi,

The Distributed Link Tracking Client is turned on automatically at startup and it is running. I confirmed this. Any other ideas that maybe able to work?

Just a side note it is only MS products that is giving me an issue. Other packages are working just fine. I can pin them and come back to them and they are working. How would I search this issue in MS?

I did check to see if trkwks.dll exist in my PC an it does.

Still not working.

Well, there is the cure all(Windows version to asparin). Open up an Admin Command Prompt and copy and paste the following in:

Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup&sfc/scannow&Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth&sfc/scannow&pause

And let it run through then reboot and run it again to check if it cleaned everything. It can take a while depending on if you have HDD or an SSD. It might appear to freeze, just let it run, sometimes it jumps from 20% to 100%, so just be patient.
After second reboot try out pinning again.

:note:: only 2 false positives will show up(this is the result of the GWX software as Windows has nothing from the original OS software to compare it to´) and they are(in red):

Summary
This update enables the Diagnostics Tracking Service in Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1), and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1. This tracking service collects data about functional issues in Windows.

This update contains the following two manifests that are occasionally updated by the Diagnostic Tracking Service:

 • telemetry.ASM-WindowsDefault.json
 • utc.app.json

The two files are marked as static files in the update. When an advanced user runs the System File Checker Tool (sfc.exe), the files are unintentionally flagged as corrupted. There is no impact or corruption on a device that is running this update, and this issue will be fixed in a later service update.

Hi CLiff,

It is not working again but I am thinking that maybe because I run PC Utilities Pro Optimiser Pro every morning that something may get deleted automatically. I tried running the program at the c: prompt but it did not work this time. I guess I could live with it. I have the icons on my desk top and just not on the task bar. If you have any ideas I would be more then willing to try them.

Thanks,

Mike

Stop using this;)

You will find most advanced users don't use optimizing software because they generally break more than they fix:eek:.
I have experimented with quite a few on a live system(about 3 years ago) everything from IOBIT to WISE, and found sometimes at first it appears to work great, but after a while they actually slow the system down and/or break something. All you need is a good cleaner such as Wise or Ccleaner or Kcleaner. Those All in Ones can cause problems.
