i was wondering if there is possible way to set default view system wide? the first part of that would be a default (sort by) and (group by). i hate everytime i enter a new folder that its back to that horrible default view, a set it once and forget approach would be so much nicer, i guess the second part of my question would be the same concept but to universally set the line spacing for each folder instead of each time in a new folder. just for clarification im speaking of (name) (type) (date) (and so on). thanks for any helpful insight.

Go to Control Panel >Folder Options open the View Tab see if any of the choices/selections there help. If so you click the "apply to all folders" button.

Then what exactly are you asking about?

The OP gave you the answer to your question.

As for line spacing that is a little different. If you wanting to show detailed information, and wanting it a little larger, that takes just zooming in or changing default font spacing.

Not quite, you see im actually the op. And if you go back and read the suggestion that was made it simply stated to have a look in folder options "and see" if any of those options would help. Now i can promise you that sort by and group by are not options in folder view. Thanks for sorta trying to help though .

There is no other way. None of us really know what more you want out of the way Microsoft has set up filters for Explorer. There are other third party explorer tools. Maybe that is what you want.

Here is what I understand of what Veritasaequi is asking. Let me know if I'm wrong.

When you right-click in a folder or go to the View tab next to File at the top-left of the window, some available options are view (layout), sort by, and group by. (Can provide screenshot if further clarification is required.)

Changing these for the current folder doesn't seem to change them for every other folder. This means every time Veritasaequi opens a new folder, those settings have to be set manually again.

I think Veritasaequi is wondering if there is a way to avoid having to do this manually for every new folder that is opened. Unfortunately, I'm unaware of any method to solve Veritasaequi's problem. I was just hoping to clarify things to help Veritasaequi find an answer to their question.

I messed around with it a little bit and I think I kind of have an answer. It is very similar to what CountryBumkin suggested.

Step 1: Open a folder and set the sort and group settings to your liking.

Step 2: Under the View tab, click on "Options" on the very right and click "Change folder and search options".

Step 3: Under the View tab of Folder Options, click the "Apply to Folders" button.

Doing this in C:\ changed just about every folder. For some reason, it seems it will have to be repeated for some folders like Documents, Pictures, Videos, and Downloads. At least I seemed to have to.

It doesn't seem to be perfect, but I hope it helps cut down the number of times you have to change the settings manually.
