Like XP or Vista: how will businesses treat Windows 8? | Ars Technica

I was wondering about this myself. Win7 has been a good fit for businesses but Win8 is different enough to pause most It managers. Will it sell?
Here is MS take on it:

I read some and skim through it makes good points but I think in general those points are things that everyone was already probably thinking of. The thing with windows 8 is that is doesn't have anything function wise or usability wise that would make it a good upgrade. That bundled with the fact that windows 7 is only NOW being upgraded by business makes it even less likely that they will upgrade it to windows 8. Probably businesses that are STILL using XP I can see them upgrading but given the fact that windows 8 is different than how windows xp had functioned then it might be a confusing change. Especially when the menu the people are used to is now hidden and the replacement is something people are not yet used to. The performance is definitely a reason I would upgrade and if they keep making the performance better I can see that as a HUGE factor to upgrade but unlikely a reason for a business to upgrade. They would need to fix some user-interface and user-friendliness issues but if they fix those and allow the user to boot only into desktop it could be even better than windows 7 if the business hasn't upgraded from XP yet. For those that have upgraded I think they would wait for the next version or next two versions where there is actually newer functions and more business ready stuff in order to upgrade.

I think some businesses will go with 8 because there's half an interface that is like 7, but another that is different altogether. xp still has 40 percent of the OS marketshare with 7 encroaching on it. Given the pros vs. cons of 8, I think it will fare ok. Touch enabled, Windows 8 To Go, faster boot times, Microsoft account, so on and so forth.

It will also be a plus for the enterprise that is considering ipads in a Windows ecosystem. A Windows OS for touch on an emerging market of touch mobile devices would be chosen any day over an ipad, or the old man's ipod touch.

XP does not have 40 percent maket share. It's down to 26%

Touch in the workplace. That is an interesting concept! I cannot see how that would work at all but I am out of touch with the new workplace these days...

Shoot, I think I read that 40 percent of businesses use xp, not overall.
