Windows 8.1 Rarely Goes Into Standby?

I am running Windows 8.1 on a gaming computer that my brother gave to me. The problem I am having is this computer will sometimes go into standby mode either by itself or when I select standby. Sometimes it will work. Other times it will not go into standby when I select it.
Under power options put computer to sleep is set to 25 minutes.

Any ideas on how to solve this will be greatly appreciated.

If on power always. I would turn time to sleep to "Never". Just let it shut the signal to the monitor, so that it goes to sleep. Also make sure devices are set to not trigger an awake state to the computer, in case you do decide to let it sleep while gone.

Just remember that if it is always on, and you tend to leave the game paused while making errands, etc. I would get a decent UPS, that will allow the computer to perform a proper shutdown. I use a APC UPS that gives me around an hour and a half to two hours.

    Appreciate the help broe23;509963.

Although it is a gaming computer I do not use it for gaming. So what I am trying to accomplish is to have it go to sleep when not in use. The interesting thing is sometimes it will go to sleep on its own and sometimes not. Even when I do select standby myself it sometimes goes to sleep or it wakes up anytime between just after selecting standby to many hours later. So yes I would like to just leave it on and have it go to standby on its own.
As for a UPS yes I have it on an older UPS and it seems to do the job.

Sleep mode is not always perfect, if there is a task that wakes it up for say Indexing, Malware Scanning, Updates. You can go into Powercfg and run a report on what is going on. Just make sure that when you run the report to create the .html file. That you do it in your Documents folder. Otherwise it defaults to System32. https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/...(v=ws.10).aspx

I always go through ever device in Device Manager, to check and make sure nothing is set to be allowed to wake the system up. Along with the bios. If you use a Laser mouse or wireless mouse. The driver for that, could trigger a wake event. Same with Wifi, Ethernet and Blue Tooth if you have that adapter installed. When a "Heartbeat" is sent to check to make sure the system is either on or off. That can also trigger a wake up event.

I tried setting a task with my son's desktop, which was my old desktop, because he would fall asleep and leave it on 24/7. I always made sure to just do a shutdown, or use Teamviewer to shut it down.

Thank you broe23 for your help. I will look into the info you have provided to see what is causing it to startup.
