Well I did a clean install of W8.1 but I also have a fair few programs installed although non run at start up. Laptop is a standard Dell Vostro 3750.

This attached video (plays straight off in media player) and shows how quickly it fires up to the desktop, and then from there how quickly you can be online. The file is very (very very) compressed to enable it to fit on the forum and so quality is awful but you can see it all happen.

Purplelover, my boot with EVO 850 SSD. Note the OS boot is 7 seconds, what drags mine down is I load Classic Shell and gadgetpack to desktop. The price I pay.

According to Glary Utilities my total restart time is about 58 seconds with an Intel 330 Series SSD. Add to that though that I have a lot of programs running at startup (Actual Window Manager, Glary Utilities, Comodo IS just to name a few) and I also have my laptop set up so it asks for a boot password before you even get to the windows logon screen. This laptop is a Dell Latitude E4310 which was built back in 2010 when SATA II controllers were still being used so it isn't taking full advantage of the SSD either.

Few other things I forgot to mention loading. Comodo AV, an ISP status meter and Daemon tools lite.

Everyone is going to be different as we know mattering to what is loading on boot, also amount of hardware i think plays are part, mine tends to be faster on cold boot though, then a restart.

Mine was 16 seconds boot. Laptops tend to be faster boot times then Desktop.

I am the poster that told you to get an SSD and showed you the 15sec bootup video..

    1. Sorry it actually is slightly longer like 17-20 seconds bootup into fully to Browse internet or whatever, start a game etc..
But the point is it is 2015 and SSD are now normal and it's what's in phones/Ipads/ and more.. its the standard now.

    2. Do you not trust me with the link I sent to you from amazon? Its a mere $100 right now buddy.. don't waste time. in my opinion samsung is better because of speed and quality and you get software called Rapid.. look it up..Amazon.com: Samsung 850 EVO 250GB 2.5-Inch SATA III Internal SSD (MZ-75E250B/AM): Computers & Accessories

    3. I do not have Hybrid Sleep or any of the boot options to make it cheat or whatever you want to call it... when I showed you the video, it is from a Cold Startup.. I turned the computer off (shutdown) and then pressed the Power button in front of you in the video!

    4. Now perhaps this is for your Desktop so it may not be as important, but forget all "spinning" disk hard drives unless you are using them for storage only.. Dont use them for your Windows drive etc.. 5400rpm/7200rpm.. doesn't matter because they are a spinning disk and you can't shake/drop/throw spinning disks! SSD are memory that you can drop/throw/shake and there is no moving parts..

    5. between Crucial and Samsung I guess you could get either, but Samsung will give you a little more in my opinion.. just my opinion though.. Get the one you want for your reasons.. be it money or speed etc.. you can see people posting up their speeds for both of them online so go by that if you want..

I just put exact same model in my system, had a Crucial MX100 before, do not see big difference, even benchmarked it. Read make good SSD's.
    Paid just under $100.
