Whenever I open the start menu, then fully expand it by hitting the arrow button, the start menu will freeze before crashing and sending me back to the unexpanded menu. Also, whenever I try to search for something using the sidebar menu, the menu will freeze after a few seconds of my typing. This happened after I got the reserve Windows 10 update/message. I have all of the latest windows updates and have cleaned the registry files. My system info is below.

OS Version: Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro, 64 bit
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8500 @ 3.16GHz, Intel64 Family 6 Model 23 Stepping 10
Processor Count: 2
RAM: 4094 Mb
Graphics Card: ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series, 512 Mb
Hard Drives: C: Total - 953765 MB, Free - 564982 MB;
Motherboard: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd., EP45-UD3R
Antivirus: Ad-Aware Antivirus, Updated and Enabled

I appreciate any help given. Thank you.

What do you mean cleaned registry files? When someone has issues and they've been in the registry it is usually the problem

Sorry, I mean that I used a registry cleaner (wise registry cleaner). Also, I used the registry cleaner a few days after this problem first occurred.

The timeline was: worked fine, windows update happened with ability to reserve windows 10 and immediately the problem started after the update, after the problem started I scanned my computer and ran the registry cleaner.

Well, you just found your problem. Restore a backup of your registry that I hope you made and never run a registry cleaner again. Like really, never

He used it after the problem started.

Which start menu do you have installed? Classic Shell?

It could be a software conflict with GWX then or something was "patched. try uninstalling classic shell and just use windows own start screen/apps screen until you get Win10, or cancel your reservation and uninstall the update for the upgrade if you don't want it
