Folder views and file associations not saved

I've recently had two problems with my system, which I believe are both due to the same underlying cause.

The first problem is that no folder views are saved. If I change the view, exit the folder, and re-enter the folder, the view will have reset to 'Details'. This applies to every folder, including libraries. I have already tried several things which solved this for others, none of which have worked for me.

The other problem is that file association does not save chosen programs, and won't even open files at all when 'Open with' is used. If I click 'Change...' (Opens with) under a file's properties, it allows me to choose a program. After choosing, nothing changes. Similarly to the first problem, I have tried every solution I can find and all have failed.

I believe this may be something related to file permissions or registry permissions, as I first noticed these issues when I disabled UAC completely through the registry editor (see http://www.eightforums.com/system-security/2434-disable-uac-completely.html). It may have started before, so don't assume this is definitely the root of the problem. NOTE: I have since re-enabled UAC through the same method, and this has not fixed either of the problems.

PS: I'm a very experienced computer user, so to save both my time and your own, keep solution instructions to a minimum.

001.png of course the option will change depending on the file type.

In folder options, is Launch folder windows in separate process under view tab checked? If that doesn't help you could clear your window size/location cache and start over.(using Ccleaner or in folder options restore defaults)

Thanks for the response. That box was checked, however nothing happens after closing the choose program dialog box regardless of whether or not it's checked. Please note: this issue occurs with both natively registered file types (TXT, GIF etc.) and file types added by external programs (JAR, OGG etc.)

I have also run CCleaner with the window size/location cache checked, and this hasn't helped with anything either.

Yep.
I get the same message-

screenshot_284.jpg

I did manage to get my dism cmd to download needed files-

http://www.eightforums.com/performance-maintenance/67201-how-i-fixed-dism-post506799.html#post506799

In my sfc log the only 2 unfixable files are the 2 json files.
Everything else is fixed.

Think I found a way to fix the file association issue, but still not sure what caused it. For some reason, a few installed programs aren't registered under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications. Adding keys manually for the 'broken' programs works, however a few working programs aren't registered either... Huh.

Unfortunately I'm still having the same issue with folder views. Am I missing some obvious control panel sub-menu or a removed feature or something?
