Well, I just moved from a Model T to a Lincoln Navigator.First techie treat in a long time. Picked up the new ASUS 13" ZenbookUX305. Very nice.
I was going to install the classic shell because I thought Imight be intimidated by 8.1 but decided to jump right in. I've managed quitewell but there is lots to learn about 8.1, the apps and the Zenbook programs totoss; so you will be fielding lots of questions.
First one:
It comes with a 256GB SSD split in 2. OS is on "C" and takes up about30 0f 95 GB. "D" is named "Data," has 167GB and iscompletely empty. What am I supposed to do with that? Seems like I should beputting "USER" stuff on it...Docs, Favs, Dessktop etc.

Second one:
No matter what I do, I can't get rid of the taskbar "Touch Keyboard."I've stopped and disabled it in services and unchecked it in taskbar toolbars. It always comes back. Several Googlers say the registry needs to be changed and I aint goin' there. Not a big deal, I just hate things that torment for nogood reason.

Third one:
Decent speakers but apparently notebooks are known for having no volume andthis is no exception. I installed a free version of DFX Souind Booster whichdoes what I want it to do but it's ugliness sits on the desktop like adiscarded potbelly stove. Any other unobtrusive free boosters out there?

Thanks and stand by for more.

Yes D:\ would be where you install your programs or if you only have the one drive then store your data there. Asus does this with all there notebooks. If you don't like It, use something like Minitool partition wizard and delete the D:\ partition and expand C:\ into the unused space.

I'll leave your other questions to others

Thanks clintlgm.
So everything I installed after it came out of the box should have gone on D?
Is it just a matter of changing the drive letter before hitting "install?"

Should I be moving User Accounts there as well?
Is that a simple process..."send to?"

Even though D is "empty" do you think a system recovery is stashed in there? If I merge the two drives, that isn't likely to affect my warrantee, is it?

Its all choices as to what you do with your SSD, Merging them in one drive was the first thing I did. Since this is the only drive you have the only advantage to keeping your OS C:\ small is for faster back up. and Images of your partition. Really with only a 256G SSD none of that makes much difference.
The only think you need to know is that restore partition is on your C:\ and if you use it F9 recover or any other Asus recovery its going to format the complete Drive back to C: and D: It will recover your notebook to factory shipped condition.

It won't effect your warranty to delete the D: partition.

You're being a big help here and I really appreciate it.
So, if you don't mind, I'll just keep the questions coming.

I gather you have an ASUS?
Zero instructions came with mine and so far the online manual isn't all that helpful.
So, are you saying F9 is the modern day version of a fresh Windows install which used to be done with the CD and product key?

If you do have ASUS, can you tell me which of the following I can or should toss out of "programs"?
--ASUS Check Device
--ASUS Giftbox Desktop
--ASUS Live Update
--ASUS Screen Saver
--ASUS Smart Gesture
--Microsoft Office (I have installed my own version).
--Wild Tangent Games App (I am not a gamer, at all)
--Winflash

I've wiped my factory install from my ASUS laptop and did a clean install. The only ASUS utility I install is the Smart Gesture utility. Without it I don't have any two finger scroll etc.
