Must I use OneDrive for everything in Windows8?

Yesterday my wife attempted to upload her resume to a web site. We pressed the Web sites Browse button and we were taken to a black screen for OneDrive. We had NO option to select her resume from the hard drive (C Only OneDrive. When uploading files from Windows 8, must one always use OneDrive? Is there a method to escape OneDrive hell?

I went into Word, opened my wife's resume, and saved it to OneDrive. When we hit Browse, there was the file in the OneDrive screen. We selected it, hit Open, returned to the web page, and absolutely nothing happened.

Is there a way to kill OneDrive? We have a terabyte hard drive, more than enough to save a couple of Word files. We don't want OneDrive. What can we do to avoid the OneDrive screen and access the C: drive instead?

I have never had an issue with OneDrive when uploading or downloading from any of my Windows 8.1 systems whether OneDrive is active or not. OneDrive is an option in Win 8.1 but there is nothing restricting you to only use it. Can you post a screenshot of the website's Browse dialog? Have you tried with other websites?

Perhaps the Website is configured to only use OneDrive. Rather than browse your computer's files, it sounds like it only is browsing OneDrive.

There is a way to disable OneDrive using group policy, but I believe you would need 8.1 Pro to do so. However, it sounds more like a glitch with the website. You should be able to save and use Word documents from any of the usual places.

When the OneDrive screen is presented, is there any way possible to open/select a window from the OneDrive window where I can browse the files hard drive? I don't EVER plan on saving files to OneDrive. If presented with OneDrive, I would want to close that window and select from the desktop/hard drive.

I think OneDrive is only functional when you're logged in with a Microsoft Account. Maybe you could try using a local account. That's what I do since I have no use for OneDrive.

That's why we're trying to say. You should have been given a standard file open dialog box. What happens when you create and try to save another file from within Word or Excel? Are you able to choose your location to save?

There are some details missing, such as what version of Windows 8.1 are you running?
