Even if you Want Metro this is totally CRAZY

    Hi there
I think others posted before about this issue on W8 CP but still not fixed in RP.

The supplied Metro apps won't open on a lot of netbooks because the screen resolution apparently is TOO LOW so What's up !!!???.

If I can run PHOTOSHOP without having to plug in an external monitor surely a STOOPID app like Weather or Stock market stock price should work !!!.

The Netbook has a resolution of 1024 x 600. Fine for purposes when I'm travelling on a plane / train etc -- don't need a HUGE 17 inch screen for these types of situations.

However seems metro needs 1024 X 768 as a minimum.

I think MS have just scored an "Own Goal" here -- a lot of tablets will fall under the minimum resolution -- as well as most phones. !!

    Cheers
    jimbo

Well, since I installed Developer's Preview to the netbooks of at least two of my mates, I was a bit puzzled that the Metro apps won't open when they would on my Desktop. It was later that I realized that they have this minimum resolution requirement.

I don't find it very easy to understand why they made this cause that would rule out netbooks WITH LESS THAN 1024 X 768 resolution from the Metro environment which they are trying to push through right now to most platforms and in that point, Metro becomes even more of a bugger hindrance if you are using such netbooks because it makes no point for netbooks like that.

Win 8 is junk, yuck! I feel boxed in with the OS, less freedom. Don't seem to have as much control of my system as with previous Windows versions. I want my desktop to be a priority and have easy access to all files and folders. I clicked on the photo app and the fact that I couldn't easily modify the description of photos was enough to turn me off.
Windows 8 isn't for gamers, graphic designers or my line of work, 3D scan, design and CNC. I don't draw on a touch screen or game on a touch screen and I wouldn't consider installing this on my work computer OR my home PC. My work flow would come to a screeching halt.
I will be keeping Win 7 for a long time.

Wow, that deserves a gaping forehead slap for sure. Holy smokes. If this is supposed to be one OS on all devices they should have allowed down to AT LEAST 640x400...

Once you get a little more accustomed to Win8, believe me you will be zipping back and forth easily. Try this when you feel "boxed in" :

    - press Alt-Tab
    - when in Desktop, hover mouse pointer to bottom left corner to switch to Start screen
    - when in Start screen, hover mouse pointer to bottom left corner to switch to Desktop
    - when in a Metro app, hover mouse pointer to top left corner to switrch to Desktop
    - press Alt-F4 to exit any Metro or standard app and return to Start or Desktop respectively
    - press Alt-F4 from Desktop to initiate shutdown or restart
    - press Win-R from Start or Desktop to run an app
    - press Win-W at any time to do a search
    - press Win key to show the Start screen
    - press Win-i at any time to get to Start screen settings

There's a lot more. I think it's actually a very good OS so far from what I have seen. I am sure for the enterprise/server versions of this, they will not be using "metro" though.

I use those keyboard shortcuts too because no other easy options are available. But that is not my idea of a modern OS. Sounds more like Windows 3.1.

How do you know this? If you could provide a link for reference, I would be interested to read more on that.

This surely cannot be the case as MS will get screwed over this (and rightly so). More investigation required???
