Hello everyone. I have a really weird problem on my hands. I guess it all started when I reformatted my computer a few months back, but never really bothered to update through Windows Update because I mainly used my PC for gaming.

After I open my Windows Update and it finishes searching for any update, it will hang/freeze whenever I attempt to install all of my updates. I have about 52 updates (1 GB) ready to be installed so I figured maybe I should try installing fewer programs. Tried installing about 7 MB's worth of updates but same thing happens, it just hangs/freezes and I would be unable to exit the process. (By the way, what would the process be called under task manager?)

I have tried deleting SoftwareDistribution and restarting. I have tried Microsoft's troubleshooting program WindowsUpdateDiagnostic.diagcab. And I have tried restarting my computer multiple times. Nothing works.

Really hoping I can get some help here. Many thanks, I greatly appreciate it.

edit: a little update - I tried installing a few of the updates... it hung for a while then it start installing but is stuck at 0%:

Make sure, that you have those services running, if not try to start them to see, if they fail to start:

COM+ Event System
Cryptographic Services
DHCP Client
Background Intelligent Transfer Service
Network Location Awareness
Network Store Interface Service
Windows Management Instrumentation
Windows Update

In the most cases it is Background Intelligent Transfer Service, which will fail to start.
Windows Update fix will not fix it, because the dependant services are not listed properly.

Hello, and thanks for the reply. You are right, I think it is indeed the Background Intelligent Transfer Service and Network Location Awareness that are the culprits in all this. However I have now ran into another problem...

When I tried to Start the BITS service I would get this error:

I have tried to search for a solution to the problem via google and someone said he was able to start the service when he started his Network Location Awareness. I tried to do the same but I would get this error:

If it helps, also have a problem where my internet connection is labeled as "Limited" with a yellow triangular exclamation mark and sometimes it would be a red X instead, but I would in fact get internet just fine... maybe these problems are related?

I also just did sfc /scannow now in cmd, and it states:
"Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log."
(I have tried to attached a text file but I got an error when uploading it...). And now I'm at a slump again. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

edit: managed to fix the problem. Turns out I'm an idiot and had certain services disabled. I enabled them which allowed me to enable services after services after services.

Thanks again for the help!!
