Ho do I permanently stop unnecessary services that run in the background? Every time I stop a service through task manager, it restarts after I boot up. Is there a program that can do this that stops these background services permanently even after rebooting?
If you're talking about the Windows Services, you cannot turn them OFF in Task Manager. There is a web site (Black Viper) where all the services are shown and which ones can be put in manual mode or completely Disabled. And, which ones to leave in Automatic mode.
You must RUN "Services.msc" to access the services, manually.
I went through that whole process myself, for XP and all subsequent OS's, and I wrote a batch file for each OS to disable UN-Needed services.
It's one of the things I do when setting up a new OS. So I can disable up to 24 services in XP, in just a few seconds, and many more in subsequent OS's. Doing it manually, in "Services.msc" can take a whole lot longer. I've been there and done that!
Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 are so similar, that I use the batch file for 8.1 when installing Win-10.
It works, to lessen the work load on the CPU and ram.
Windows Services first showed up in Windows XP and I spent several days, working to figure out which services I didn't need. I wound up disabling or setting to Manual, 24 different services. Later, I found all the info I needed, on the Black Viper web site. I also found info on how to write a batch file, to disable the services for me. That sure took the bite out of a very nasty little job.
Good Luck and Happy Computing!
