Infernal System Restore Error 0x80070002

Greetings everyone,

I've been struggling for the last 24 hrs with this.
I first decided to perform a "PC Refresh" due to some instability. It turns out this operation removes all programs I had previously installed (I didn't know that, it's my 1st time dealing with win8).
So I thought I'd just restore my PC using the System Restore tool to a time prior to the "PC Refresh" (which should be honestly re-named "PC Screw-up"...)

However, no matter which restore point I choose, I always get the following error:

System restore failed to replace the file C;\Program Files (x86)\Amolto Call Recorder for Skype\SKYPE4~1.DLL with its original copy from the restore point. An unexpected error occurred during System Restore (0x80070002)

Naturally, I tried to find a solution for this by Googling. Most results I got pertain to Windows 7 and Vista. Still, I tried some of the suggested solutions. I tried running chkdsk /f /r, and sfc /scannow, then trying to run the restore tool again only to get the same error over and over again.

To my understanding, the file mentioned in the error message is probably corrupted. TBH, I couldn't care less for the related program (Amolto call recorder).

How can I solve this problem?
Is it possible to skip restoring this program (and maybe others as well)?

Thank you

Try using Revo to remove it, along with Lync. For some who knows why reason. Microsoft's Software Engineers thought that it would be cute to join both Lync to Skype.

Most likely there is some person somewhere, or company that could not let go of Lync.

I realized the "Refresh PC" tool created a windows.old folder where all the old program files were placed

Well not all of them, half of them were missing, but to me the most important data I needed was my Firefox and Chrome data, which I retrieved from App Data.

I decided to re-install all the removed programs, one by one. This definitely took less time than praying for the system restore to work.

Take my 2 cents: NEVER use "refresh your PC" unless you have a complete system backup.
