Unable to open folder unless it's in another folder.

Unable to open folder unless it's in another folder.

I have a folder which contains graphic items. It had been stored as a back-up on an external hard drive.
Subsequent to reinstalling the operating system from a disk image, I found that I can not open the saved and reinstalled folder if it is on the desktop.

If I place that folder within another folder on the desktop, I can open it. I want to be able to open it when it is directly on the desktop.

I have no idea what is wrong, or why.

    Help please.

Create a new folder on the desktop then move/copy the files to it. Then delete the original folder/s if that method works, don't delete anything until you're sure it's worked properly.

I had tried copying the folder and pasting that to the desktop, but that didn't work - I couldn't open it.

So, I did as you suggested. I created a new folder on the desktop and named it Graphics temp, copied and pasted all the files from the folder which works into the new one.
That worked fine too. But when I renamed it from Graphics temp to simply Graphics, it didn't work.

I have now, as a test, also copied and pasted the original file to the desktop again, and renamed that, and it works too.

So what do I have to do so that the system accepts the original name?

That's a strange one. I can't say I've heard of that happening before.
