I'm not sure what you are asking, but if you need to run DOS or want to learn DOS, you'd be much better off running it in a virtual machine.

I do know there are going to be problems syncing files, keeping up with created data, etc., 'cause DOS 5 cannot read NTFS, modern Windows is not going to cooperate very well with FAT16. Wait, can DOS 5 read FAT32? If so, perhaps this dual boot might work; however, what about the long file names, I don't remember DOS 5 handling long file names.

I don't know, I only remember DOS 6 and 6.2. Haven't really thought about that since win 2000 or so. Basically the things we would have used DOS for we just do from a command Prompt now.

I' Using MS-DOS 5.0 16Bit to compile code in real mode on my 64Bit machine.

I have already depleted the internet's public knowledge regarding this problem being faced when attempting to dual boot MS-DOS 5.0 16Bit and any modern Windows such as [7] or [8] 64Bit.

My instalment is perfectly running already, just need some help with what I have posted above.

Most notably the boot loader path for the DOS, we know Windows's boot loader is winload.exe, but what is DOS's?

I do have an idea I'm working on in the mean time, but I will post that next time if it's viable solution.

I'm trying to configure my system to dual boot with Windows 7 and 8.1 installed (defaulting to 8.1). I did this earlier in the week installing Windows 8.1 Enterprise first and when I installed Windows 7 second, Windows 7 wouldn't boot correctly. Then was told that you should install the older...
Bought a used HP laptop that originally had Win7 Ultimate, and the previous owner had split the hard drive into two partitions and put Win8 Pro on the second partition. The boot up process is controlled by Win8 and you select at startup whether you want to go to Win7 or Win8. Pretty neat. BUT it...
This happened about two days ago. By going in chronological order: I used to have a dual-boot setup, a Windows 7 and Windows 8 on two different IDE 80GB hard drives, named Drive A and Drive B, respectively. Both of these hard drives are quite old, and I'm worried that it may be near the end of...
Hello, I have an HP Envy with Win8 pre-installed. I am trying to do a dual boot setup with windows 7, as some of the software I use daily, is not compatible with win8. The new software has yet to be released, and will not run in any compatibility modes. Knowing this is beating a dead horse,...
My laptop bootup stops at f1 setup or f2 load default screen and waits for my selection only when I previously shutdown from Windows 8. When I shutdown from Windows 7 the bootup is okay and continues through the select Windows 8 or Windows 7 screen. Windows 7 was already on my laptop c: drive...
Hello, I bought a new SSD to test out win 8. I've installed win 8 RP onto it from a usb and everything worked fine. Unfortunately after restarting the computer after setup, it boots straight into windows 7 without any dual booting options. Did I do something wrong?

Had a dual-boot XP/W7 laptop... XP on partition 1, Win 7 on partition 2. I booted from a USB stick, reformatted partition 1 (XP) and installed Win 8 there. It did not setup a dual boot for me. I know I should have thought of this ahead of time (my bad), BUT... is there anyway, after the...
