The only thing I know for now is that Windows 10 will be provided as an optional Windows update through the application of the same name for Windows 7/8.1 users. I don't know if it will be provided through ISO, but maybe the recovery DVD will, just like Windows 7.

What I read yesterday [an interview] said the decision hasn't yet been made, could be a streaming install or the .iso download or both.

I really hope it's the ISO, but I can absolutely see why it wouldn't be. :| Here's hoping.

If the same holds true with how they did Windows 7 >> Windows 8 upgrade, it will download to a folder and you could save the folder out and use it to install Windows 10. I am sure 7 days after the initial release there will be blogs explaining how to do it.

I just read if you have Windows 8.1 standard it will get a Windows 10 Home upgrade.

I still have a Windows 7 Pro license I never used. Windows 7 Pro gets an upgrade to Windows 10 Pro. I might just have to downgrade my tablet to Windows 7 Pro just so I can get Windows 10 Pro. Hmmmm...

Sweet. I think my 8.1 is the standard version. Didn't see the point in spending a heap on the "Pro" iteration. At least it'll be free, but it won't be free forever, which kinda bugs me, because currently I have a nice setup with which everything actaully works, however, if I go and install a brand new operating system--and with that comes a torrent of issues--then I feel I'd be far worse off.

I guess we will have to wait for Microsoft's decision

The problem for me is that anyone that has upgraded Windows in the past should know that you have a 50/50 chance of hosing up drivers or having other issues after the "upgrade". Typically these cannot be fixed easily if at all.

I even had a Windows 8 tablet (that was shipped with Windows 8) and after the "upgrade" to Windows 8.1 it had a lot of issues. The fix was to save everything and tell Windows 8.1 to completely re-install itself like a clean install. It did fix a lot of problems

It is ALWAYS best and recommended to do a CLEAN install when going from one version of Windows to a newer version of Windows.

That is why I prefer to do a clean install, I remember when I did the 8.1 update it failed completely to complete the update and Windows failed to load.
