The only thing I know for now is that Windows 10 will be provided as an optional Windows update through the application of the same name for Windows 7/8.1 users. I don't know if it will be provided through ISO, but maybe the recovery DVD will, just like Windows 7.

What I read yesterday [an interview] said the decision hasn't yet been made, could be a streaming install or the .iso download or both.

I really hope it's the ISO, but I can absolutely see why it wouldn't be. :| Here's hoping.

If the same holds true with how they did Windows 7 >> Windows 8 upgrade, it will download to a folder and you could save the folder out and use it to install Windows 10. I am sure 7 days after the initial release there will be blogs explaining how to do it. :)

I just read if you have Windows 8.1 standard it will get a Windows 10 Home upgrade.

I still have a Windows 7 Pro license I never used. Windows 7 Pro gets an upgrade to Windows 10 Pro. I might just have to downgrade my tablet to Windows 7 Pro just so I can get Windows 10 Pro. Hmmmm...

Sweet. I think my 8.1 is the standard version. Didn't see the point in spending a heap on the "Pro" iteration. At least it'll be free, but it won't be free forever, which kinda bugs me, because currently I have a nice setup with which everything actaully works, however, if I go and install a brand new operating system--and with that comes a torrent of issues--then I feel I'd be far worse off.

The problem for me is that anyone that has upgraded Windows in the past should know that you have a 50/50 chance of hosing up drivers or having other issues after the "upgrade". Typically these cannot be fixed easily if at all.

I even had a Windows 8 tablet (that was shipped with Windows 8) and after the "upgrade" to Windows 8.1 it had a lot of issues. The fix was to save everything and tell Windows 8.1 to completely re-install itself like a clean install. It did fix a lot of problems

It is ALWAYS best and recommended to do a CLEAN install when going from one version of Windows to a newer version of Windows.

That is why I prefer to do a clean install, I remember when I did the 8.1 update it failed completely to complete the update and Windows failed to load.

Sooner or latter ISO's will be put up on MSDN. Once that happens, somebody (won't be me) will leak them to where ever. I'm hoping there will be a Media Creation Tool for Windows 10 like there is for Windows 8.1. Going by past performance with the Insider Previews, my guess is it will be online upgrade only at first. They'll want to test that out on as many PC's as possible. Then eventually you'll get some kind of download option. People aren't going to want to have to reinstall Windows 7 or 8.1, and upgrade to 10, every time they have to reinstall their OS. I personally will take a clean install over an upgrade in any month with a week in it.
