Information needed regarding resetting windows 8.1

    Hello all,
So I have been using my laptop with win 8.1 for more than a year now and of late I made the mistake of installing some crap softwares which even though i immediately removed, still left some traces in the system due to which my machine has slowed down to a crawl..

Now i want to format my pc without loosing the data..
I have 4 disk partitions, of which windows is installed on C drive...
Win 8 gives the option to refresh the install, but i want to make sure that everything installed in c drive and c drive only would be removed and not any other drives...

So can anyone confirm that if i choose the refresh option, all data from c drive would be removed and other data in other drives would be safe?

    Thanks,
    J

If what you mean does it only refresh the system drive then yes. After the refresh you'll have to repoint your files/libraries if, you like me, placed them on another drive or partition. This is why many people use(and manufacturers install) a D: drive for data

    1. The PC boots into Windows RE.
    2. Windows RE scans the hard drive for your data, settings, and apps, and puts them aside (on the same drive).
    3. Windows RE installs a fresh copy of Windows.
    4. Windows RE restores the data, settings, and apps it has set aside into the newly installed copy of Windows.
    5. The PC restarts into the newly installed copy of Windows

You'll have to reinstall your desktop programs though, if this is not a custom refresh.
