Boot from CD/DVD not working

Hi,

It seems that W8.1 is a lot different then XP and W7, what I was used to.

I created one of the emergence boot disks and am trying to get it to boot from it, to test it out.
In the Bios Settings the DVD-driver is above the HDD option.

Also if I want to set the Boot Order, I see only 2 options, some about iv4 and iv6. as far as I know that is IP/Internet stuff.
Why is that in my Boot Order as the only options? Of course the comp does not boot from them (No OS installed error)

I never had these strange things with XP or W7 and am kind of at a loss here how to proceed.

Maybe the disk is not bootable, but at least I would like to see somewhere "Press any key to boot from CD", that I have never seen, now with W8.1

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks, Ron

The latest version of AOMEI is 2.5. That supports UEFI. Not sure whether the PE Builder 1.4. does support UEFI - although your file looks like UEFI . I am not sure what you are trying to do, but if you want a recovery medium for AOMEI images I suggest you get the 2.5. AOMEI Backupper and try that again.

I think that AOMEI PE Builder is NOT Secure Boot compatible.

Quote from this post:

Secure Boot.

Secure Boot protect users from rootkits and other low-level malware attacks by blocking unauthorized (non-signed) executables and drivers from being loaded during the boot process.

Secure Boot only works in UEFI Boot Mode, when you enable Secure Boot in your PC's UEFI firmware (BIOS) settings. But if you have an OEM PC that came with Windows 8 64-bit preinstalled, then Secure Boot is turned on by default.

Note: To confirm Secure Boot is enabled, within Windows 8 run the following command as administrator from the command prompt:

powershell confirm-SecureBootUEFI

The result should be True.

Not sure whether the PE Builder 1.4. does support UEFI - although your file looks like UEFI .

AOMEI PE Builder Change Logs

"Support for creating a Windows PE bootable media on Windows 8.1."

"Windows PE bootable media supports both UEFI and Legacy BIOS boot mode."

Well. I made the same disk using AOMEI Backupper, but still no joy.

I think the problem really is to get the computer to startup from a disk.
As I said, I never get to see the term "Press any key to boot from CD" as I was used to with other Windows versions.

I even tried it with my old original W7 install disk and even that one gets ignored. At least the system should be able to start up from that.

Any settings I try in the BIOS, just does not change anything, yes I can get in to the recovery with several boot options and I am sure it will work after I have made a full C:\Windows (and apps) restore backup.

But for now I am just trying a small emergency disk as in AOMEI Backupper under Utilities, option 2 (Create bootable media),
just in case all other methods fail (in the very very far future I hope, or better never, but as people, computers are far from perfect).

Thanks, Ron

PS. Non-related, it seems that when going in to the BIOS, a monitor with VGA or HDMI must be attached.
My monitor goes through the DVI (my TV uses the HDMI). DVI seems to not be capable of pre-startup screens.
Saves me from having to see the HP logo when starting up on my monitor:haha:

That is normal, if you start the computer by using the Windows 7/8/10 64-bit DVD in UEFI boot mode (see screenshots below).

I think the problem really is to get the computer to startup from a disk.

You should use Secure Boot compatible DVD/USB, for example, Windows 8 64-bit DVD/USB or you need to disable Secure Boot.

When I insert Windows 7 32/64-bit DVD or Windows 8 32-bit DVD into my laptop, the DVD is not recognized (see screenshot below).

When I insert Windows 8 64-bit DVD into my laptop, the DVD is recognized (see screenshot below), because Windows 8 64-bit DVD is Secure Boot compatible.
