A nasty ransom virus has disabled the System Restore function in Win 8.0. How can I once again enable it? It appears in "gray" and tells me to contact the Administrator when I click on it.

Thanks much.....

I'm not the right guy to answer but I'm the first :)

Start the PC and keep pressing ESC at the top left of the keyboard as it's starting.
This should give you the options you need.

Thanks.....my system boots just fine and I believe functions OK. I want to do a system restore and that function has been disabled by a ransom virus. I have searched everywhere and can find no mention of how I can re-enable the system restore function.

Group Policies Editor is not available in Windows 8 Core, only with Pro version so you don't have this option.
Download the attachement below and unzip, double click to merge into the registry to see if it fixes your problem.

BINGO TopGun, thanks. It worked perfectly. I have now successfully restored my system after acquiring the very nasty
CryptoWall 3 virus. I believe I have cleared the virus, but doc and pic files are encrypted. I will now try CrashPlan to see if it can decrypt any files. Unless, of course, there are any other ideas out there?

System Restore is very unreliable and often corrupted. Use: Macrium Reflect Free instead then just make a backup image.
