Hi Everyone

I am new to this forum.

I loved Windows XP, and eventually I had to get Windows 7 . .. it took a while to get used to it . . . but I did in the end.

NOW .. . . . .
I had to purchase a new laptop, because my old one died . . ..

Two problems with this purchase . . .

1 . . . I was in Spain, and I needed it to be in English not Spanish !

2. It has Windows 8. . . . which it FOUR TIMES WORSE than Windows 7 !

I have managed to get the download for the English language set up . . .
I have done that, and it has changed the menu and MOST, BUT NOT ALL of the system into English.

But when it closes down, does updates, or anything that MATTERS to the laptop, it is still in Spanish !

I found a tutorial where it told me to go to RegEdit and change . . .
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentContorlSet\Control\Nls\Language
scrolled down to . . . . . . . InstallLanguage and changed to the code to US English

This changed the CLOSE DOWN language to English, and I was happy !

However, when I switched it back on, all I got was a Black Screen and the Windows Logo on the bottom Left, and the Desktop logo on the right. not the Apps Screen, which is usuall for Windows 8

Messing about with this gave me the Windows Menu so I could get onto the intenet etc etc . . ..
So . . .
I changed the Registry back to Spanish . . . . . it now works like it did before, but in Spanish.

My question is . . . . there MUST be a way to change the registry to English but there must be more than one key? Yes?

Thanks for any advice

Geoff

Hello amscerp,

You no need to download the language from internet to set it as primary, this can easily download malware and make your system working improperly. You can easily change language using control panel and PC settings.

1. Go to control panel. Then search for Language.
2. Click Add a language. Then search for US English language.
3. Open PC Settings. Click Time and language, and then click Region and language.
4. Click on US English language and click set as primary.
5. Sign out and sign in to see if it changed.
(You can actually do all of these in PC Settings without going to control panel.)

Cheer!

The installed language setting is stored in the Registry.
You have to go to REGEDIT to change it.
If you do not know what you are doing, do NOT GO TO REGEDIT.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Nls\Language registry key.
The value is called InstallLanguage. It's a REG_SZ value which contains the language code (e.g. US English is 0409, Spanish is 0c0a).

Hello,
Just go to PC Settings and change it, why you want to change it in registry editor?

Also next time don't capitalize everything when you are posting like "DO NOT GO TO REGEDIT"
Thank.
