W8,1 crashed today, boots up to the windows "4 Squares", and after 15seconds or so, reboots. No error message. Since the drive is now unbootable, how can I look at my raw Macrium image files to tell if they are 8.1. Exploring the 8.1 SSD with Win7 I am denied permission to view the macrium files. Run as administrator no option I can see. Not allow to ask ? in Macrium Forums unless you have a paid version. Is there a file location to view that would tell what the OS is like C:\windows\......?

You would use the bootable Restore Media you made with Macrium Reflect, Since it boots before you OS it won't matter what OS you have. You would have named your Images in the Back up Definition Files tab that's where you would sort out which one you want to resore the details will tell you where the file is and what the Image Name is.

Under normal circumstances, that is correct. But the Back up Definition Files are on the disk that will not boot and therefore not accessible? All I have is a Macrium image with 16 numbers/letters, no way to identify the image OS/date etc. (pretty sure it is 8.1) It is PP management on my part for not logging them separately with positive ID. I have a new SSD, freshly formatted, a single Macrium rescue disk and an image that I first put on a USB HDD. After boot up with the rescue disk, it asked for USB drivers so that it could recognize the USB HDD drive, couldn't find any, so could not link the image. Next, I burned/added the image on to the rescue disk, was able to find it ok, but after finish, computer would not reboot with same error. Changed out SSD with a W10 OS, boots no problem. Tx for comments

You could shrink another partition by 128MB then using cmd prompt
diskpart
select disk #
create partition msr size=128
