Random audio/video/mouse stutter [Windows 8.1]

Hey Everyone,

Recently I've been having some weird issues with my audio and video stuttering randomly. Sometimes it happens when I open up a website, sometimes when I open up an application. There's nothing in specific I can do to reproduce the issue, it just happens randomly and often.

At first I thought it was an audio/sound card issue, because it happened when I was listening to a song on spotify, however after some testing that doesn't appear to be the issue.

Just for reference my system specs are:

Processor: I5-2500K O.C. @ 4.0 GHz
GPU: EVGA GTX 680
Mobo: Asus P8Z68 M-Pro
Ram: Corsair Vengance 4x4GB
Sound card: Asus Xonar DSX 7.1

I'm not really sure what the issue was. A few ideas were it was related to sound or my harddrives. Perhaps it was slowing down because something was loading? But for it to occur this often, it seems odd.

Here's what I've done so far:

1. Every time it happens I check the Application event logs. Nothing out of the ordinary there.
2. I've ran a Disk Check on all 6 of my HDD's. No errors found.
3. Verified and reinstalled my audio, video drivers.
4. Made sure I had the latest windows updates
5. Ran a SFC scan.

All without success.

From some google searches and other threads, I've noticed people posting their LatMon stats. I'm not really sure what these are used for, but here are mine. Hope they can help. These are from about 30 seconds of running the program, about 5 minutes after a fresh reboot (once all of my applications have loaded).

Latency Mon results: Pastebin.com

Edit: Here is a video of the issue occuring. It happens at 7 seconds in. The issue is hard to hear because I filmed it on a potato. Screen capturing didn't record the issue.

Also I'm not sure if this is somehow related to my previous stutter issue/crashes? They seemed to be resolved before by reformatting, but I can't be doing that like once a month: http://www.eightforums.com/gaming/6...crashing-constant-static-buzz.html#post482213

Thanks in advanced!

OH NICE! I really hope so too, then I wouldn't be alone on this one =)

Tell you what, let's verify this information:
Go to your Slideshow Settings and set the picture to change every 1 minute (if yours is set to change quicker than 1 minute, like every 30 seconds or so, then that's even better!)
Play some music and listen in your headphones if you got that. Minimize everything to only be able to be staring at your desktop. Then click on the clock Once in the bottom right corner, so you can see a picture of the Analog (circle) Clock. Make sure you can see the Seconds hand.

The Slideshow work exactly on the seconds of the clock. (My Background changes every 1 Minute, so it changes on :00 seconds, every single time)

If yours is every 30 seconds for example, then it changes every time the seconds hand is on :00 & :30 seconds, and so forth.

Hope you can verify this glitch.

Nope that doesn't appear to be my issue :(

Hmh.. darn. Well, I hope someone can help you resolve this issue as well.

Yet, Thank you for trying and checking to see if what I was experiencing was related to your problem.

I'll keep them circulating more often (usually have it set to 1/2hr) and I'll see if it ever occurs on a wall paper rotation.

Since you have yours set to change every 1 or 2 hours, I'm assuming the time option doesn't matter what it could be.

So tell you what, set it to change every 10 seconds, no need to click the clock to see when it will change, since every 10 seconds is really fast.
Then just sit there with some good music playing, staring at the desktop. See if the glitch happens exactly when the picture changes. See the problem with mine is that it does not happen every single time the picture changes. It happens randomly. And what's tricky is that within the past few hours, i've only experienced this glitch happening a few times, even though my background changes every 1 minute. Then there were times where it happened every minute like 5 times in a row. So it is completely random. Just sit there with some patience and see what happens.

Also keep note that on my computer, if I Right Click the Desktop -> Next desktop background, the glitch never happens (on that manual picture change!); It must be when it automatically changes!

Tell you what I just thought of:
Assuming your glitches are the same as mine.. and that these glitches happen completely randomly..
Set the desktop picture to change every 10 seconds (like I said before), and just do your daily routines; do your own thing on the computer. Since those glitches happen frequently for me at certain random times (like 5 times a row in 5 minutes (every one minute), then don't happen at all for like a few hours) and so on..
Then if you notice this happening so frequently, like 5 times in one minute, then we can almost accurately reach the conclusion that your issue arises from the Slideshow as well.

(PS: I've been listening to music for the past hour or so non-stop and have barely heard the glitch) So it's definitely random on its own.

Also, maybe tomorrow, disable Picture Slideshow and see if you have any glitches at all.

Hmm slide show doesn't appear to be causing the issue :/

As a matter of fact, within the past day or so, my audio is barely ever glitching now. Never did a critical new Windows Update (except for Microsoft Defender Virus Definitions).

What I'd suggest if you haven't already done so, is to make a 100% certainty that it's not from the slideshow; Make a visual & auditory check to experience it at least once to see that the audio glitches exactly at the moment your Desktop does Not change backgrounds.

Other than that, hope you find a solution. My audio glitches seemed to have almost completely vanished. Hope I didn't jinx it.

I think it might be my graphics card dying... I was playing Rising Storm and it was happening every couple of seconds and then my display driver crashed

Oh okay. Maybe try updating your graphics card software from their website. Hopefully that would fix the problem.

Got a video of the issue. The stutter occurs at 7 seconds in. It's pretty quiet to hear because I videoed it on a potato.
