my start screen is split

how do I unsplit it? (windows 8.1)

What are your RAM, HD, graphic card, etc. specs? The regular w8forums techs will need to know.

By that I mean that the start window only occupies half the screen

Is this a laptop, or is it displaying improperly on a monitor? We'll gladly try to help you, but you have to give us something to work with.

DeaconFrost, my educated guess: if laptop and if external monitor, then it's time to test different display settings on both external monitor and laptop until the best of all possible video worlds is achieved.

I have actually encountered this problem before. It is a quantum mechanical problem that is the metaphysical by-product (epiphenomenon) of the spatial-temporal properties of the screen itself. The information is actually being sent to the screen properly, but the screen is performing a time-warp algorithm on the information, thus splitting the spatial characteristics and the temporal characteristics of the information, causing the split screen. But there is an easy fix, move to Arizona.

What I meant was, if it is a monitor, then maybe the monitor needs to be reset, or a different cable needed to be used if it was a large monitor. If it was a laptop's built-in screen, then it could be a driver issue or a hardware display issue.
