    Windows 7 Professional x64 - XP SP3 & Windows 8 CP on VMWare Player

    First Thoughts about Windows 8

This should probably be posted elsewhere on this forum, so apologies in advance.
I've installed the 8250 CP version under VMWare Player and have been experimenting with it for a week or two.
It supports most of my apps and the older ones I have to use VM XP to use anyway, since even Windows 7 doesn't support them.
Yes, the Metro screen and lack of a Start button does come as a bit of a shock at first, but having trawled through this and other forums, I've managed to customize the metro screen the way I like it.
The idea of using the mouse to navigate to the corners of the screen is a bit of a no-no, but I assume M$ designed the interface primarily with touch screens in mind.
I find it fairly easy navigating using keyboard shortcuts, a tad regressive maybe, even going back to DOS days, but I keep reminding myself that this is a beta incarnation.
Tho' not a great fan of M$, I hope they pick up on the views of this and other forums and create a better product than 7 in the final release; a big call in my opinion.

WYSIWYG - what you see is what you'll get. Don't expect any big changes.

I agree with WHS. With the release candidate less than 2 weeks away, the code is fixed in stone by now except for bug changes.

Actually, Microsoft has said that the Desktop won't the final incarnation of the UI, we'll have to wait until the early fall until the RTM where that will have the final, finished Desktop UI. As for the Start Screen, that's fairly set in stone.

KB2973544 is the one that supposedly forces windows 8 users to upgrade to 8.1. People who already have 8.1 probably didn't get this update, and I read that not all windows 8 users get this update, and it comes out in small batches at different times. I am not really looking for any help here as...
Hi folks: I'm into Day 3 of using Windows 8.1 with Update 1, and I'm pretty pleased with it. I'm not running into many limitations yet, and all my apps of choice have worked so far. I will still say that I prefer Vista from a visual perspective, and in its ability to customize the desktop, but...
Hello everyone, So I am looking at buying a Windows Phone with my tax return and I am curious for those of you who own or are thinking about owning what your experience has been with the platform? I only use my phone for social media, texting, skype, calling, music player and gps. As far as I...
Hi there. I decided to upgrade a few days ago to Windows 8 as I decided 25 wasn't much of a loss if I didn't like it. I wasn't too sure what to expect but I'm mostly presently surprised. The main big change that originally annoyed me when I first saw the early versions of Windows 8 was the...
It's been 2 days now since I completed my hellish install of Windows 8 (which, itself, took 2 days) and I'm now just getting round to playing with some of the features. Sure it's clean, nice, fancy... all of that, but there's one overwhelming issue that I just can't quite put my finger on and it's...
I'm directly copying this from a comment I left on an article that was discussing Windows 8; but as the title implies, this will probably be the last thread I start on here, because frankly, it seems that no matter what, Win8 haters are going to hate, regardless of whether they give the OS an...
