Hi could someone tell me what dbgwin.exe is for

I have a Medion E6221 (MD97998) laptop on windows 8.1 and I have a noticed a log file in my D drive back up thats constantly growing I noticed it was 4gb yesterday and couldnt read with notepad so i deleted which it did then after a few seconds it appeared again and started growing in size again

It seems as if it basically logging the same information over and over
What is this file and can I get rid of it or not Ive used my Bullguard Internet security and Superantispyware remover to check for viruses or spyware, malware etc but its still there and doesnt show up as a virus or anything nasty

in the dbgwin_dump file in my D drive this is what it is repeatedly copying over and over

I searched for a bit, and the only dbgwin.exe I found was a debugger for a Microsoft Assembly language programming suite called MASM32.

Does this sound like something you might have installed on your PC?

edit: It might get installed via Visual Studio if you install an Assembly language SDK, not sure.

Hi Thanks for reply

I have tried searching google myself to no avail some of the sites seem to think its a virus some its part of a program

I have tried deleting it but it just reinstalls and then basically copies same log over and over so that as you could be due to debugger from a program
so would I find the MASM32 in the system files
The laptop came with 32 bit programs and 64 bit programs installed from Medion
I then had the option to purchase win8 for cheap download which only worked for 32 bit systems so I then paid for a set of discs with 32bit version and 64bit
I installed the 64bit
I could upgrade clean install whichever I chose I had loads of initial problems with drivers as Medion are not the best at updating drivers quickly or more than once
After sorting most errors, apart from uncontrollable mouse and sometimes impossible to move with touchpad
I then installed win8.1 and slowly most of problems ceased apart from the touchpad occasionally doing its thing

Then I noticed that in my back up D drive this log file was 4gb so I checked what it was and then started deleting
I have checked my drivers

Soon win10 comes out and hopefully will be better as they say everyone on win8 8.1 will get a free upgrade I here
so at that point I might do a clean install of win 8 then win 8.1 and then 10

I will check video studio as I have that as it came with laptop and I have recovery disc which restores to factory and also win 7 home premium disc, win 8
Its been nothing but a nightmare since purchasing Jan 2013 as late Xmas present for youngest

cheers for your help will check
she hardly used it because of problems Medion less than helpful as they say errors by software is not under warranty even though they sold me win 7 with it and win8 as optional

I couldn't swear that there isn't some wacky malware writer using a file called dbgwin.exe to do damage to a person's system or maybe to write system variables to a file he/she is somehow able to peek at. And this file could be a version of the actual debugger I mentioned before.

However, if you have Visual Studio installed, and especially if you have installed an Assembly language SDK, or a driver building SDK (I think Assembly is one of the languages commonly used to write drivers), then this is probably a legitimate program that is legitimately attempting do debug some program, although I don't know why.

If the debugging process was started in Visual Studio, by someone working on a project, then I think opening up that project and telling Visual Studio to stop debugging (shift + f5 or select it from Debug pull down menu) should end your troubles.

Do you have a %ProgramFiles%\ATKGFNEX folder?

If so, look in Programs and Features to see if there is anything like ATKG......

Also check your Startup programs in Task manager and Services in msconfig (Hide all Microsoft services), see if anything there.

I have looked for microsft visual studio and as far as i can see it isnt installed

and in the task manager and services I havnt found anyhting yet

I think it may be from a program that isnt working correctly but i dont know which
the only program I have a fault with |i know of is renases usb3.0 utility

I will keep checking and get back to you i have found a forum that deals with MASM as someone else says it may be related to that but I am not sure so i will ask on that forum also

%ProgramFiles% is an environment variable that points to C:\ProgramFiles. ATKGFNEX would be a file in that folder.

may have to do with a service GFNEX, stop the service if you have it. You might have to disable it if it starts up again. Google Translate

I took cues from ztrucker (searching terms in your first post aside from dbgwin.exe) to do the search that actually came up with your solution. Glad everything worked out.

Yes its fixed it was related to a program called P hotkey whch has the sotware and driver to work a secondary touchpad which has my wifi button and mute touch etc. I stopped the Gfnexsrv then delwted the log file and realised my secondary touch keys not working . reinstalled program and drivers in compatibility mode and everything is working ok now.
Thanks again to you and the forum
