IE 10 Desktop vs Windows Media Security Component Upgrade

I've been having problem to use IE 10 Consumer Preview version (10.0.8250.0) to go through the individualization page (http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/indivsite/en/indivit.asp). Will it be fixed in next release?

Without it to upgrade the Windows Media Security Component, there is no way I can play DRM files in Windows 8. Any suggestions?

Hi, welcome. Yes, don't ever support, purchase, or otherwise add to DRM propagation.

What issue are you having?

You can check Windows Media Player to enable to send the unique id, instead. Options | Privacy tab

The WMP option seems to be meant for stream content from the Internet. That is not my usage case. What I need to do is to play DRM Windows Media files (WMA or WMV). There are lots of DRM Audiobooks and video from public libraries' digital collections (as well as in the corporate library at Microsoft) that is free of charge. I've been enjoying them in all earlier Windows versions. For that to work, the WMP requires the Security Component upgrade, that is why I need the IE 10 to support the individualization page (Security component upgrade) to do just that.

Surely I hope that Windows 8 could continue to support Microsoft's own DRM at Desktop mode. Anyone has insights to it?

Yep, my point is that just using it at all in any form just adds to the willingness of these entities to use this junk DRM.

I mean, even if no money is involved, just look at the stranglehold placed on supposedly "free" information that is currently happening to you.

With all the entertainment and learning tools available to anyone with an internet connection, it's probably best to look at those options free of DRM.

I am also having this problem. I have previously been able to use Security component upgrade by opening internet explorer as administrator (right click on the icon, right click of 'internet exploerer', select 'run as administrator', then go to the website and the upgrade button should work.)

This however is not working for me now. I have just done a factory reset, so my computer should be in factory settings. But I cannot access the upgrade button on Security component upgrade even if I run it as an administrator and without the firewall. any ideas?

I've received Microsoft response that acknowledging the issue in IE 10. Currently, the work around will be running IE 10 as administrator and set the Browser Mode to Compatibility View (under F12 developer tools). Then you can go to Security component upgrade to upgrade the Windows Media Player Security components for Windows Media DRM contents.
