New to Windows 8i after years of XP Pro Uploading photos

Had this new computer (Acer Aspire E15) for a month, Windows 8i installed (with usual UK PC World additions - My Image Garden etc )
Years of use of Windows XP Pro with my old (and now very dead computer) .familiar with My Photos where I found it easy to resize, crop & generally adjust my pics before an easy upload to e.Bay, Dropbox, e.mails whatever.
I have tried to do the same with Windows 8i but am convinced I need some pro help/advice to set me on the right path, as so far all I have managed is to raise frustration levels and give up for "another day".
I would very much appreciate any guidance in not too technical language please. Many thanks. Mike

There's a standard Photos app in Windows 8 where you can crop and resize photos as well as adding other general effects to it. If you don't need Photoshop tools, this app would be enough for you for editing photos.

    1. Right-click on the photo you want to edit
    2. Select "Open with"
    3. And then click on "Photos" Click image for larger version

When you're in the app, you can right-click on the photo to bring up the editing tools beneath.

As for uploading easily to Dropbox, Ebay, etc. I don't really know any software for that other than going to their websites and upload your pictures from there. Perhaps you could search on the Windows Store for any photo uploading apps.

The Windows Store looks like this and can be found when you're on the Start Screen:

Not really off-topic, each version of an Operating System has changes from previous versions, critical to be precise in the description because of the effects of those differences.

Yup, but besides build conventions... they could make it more interesting... (not everybody understands major and minor build definitions)... 'Me' and 'XP' were more market-friendly (for lack of a better expression)

BIG PORTION OF HUMBLE PIE ON MY PLATE !!!!! I do apologise
Sorry not to correct typo before but been away at work, of course my op system is Windows 8.1 (NOT 8.i)
I have an Intel Core i3-4005U. with an Intel HD graphics 4400.
I hope this gives any advisors on handling photos on this system: cropping, correcting, storing/labelling location for easy access, etc more accurate information/friendly advice most welcome. Thank you once again.

Thank you for your reply - much appreciated - I will take a look at your suggestions from the start menu onwards - although I have downloaded pics from camera and scanner with success, but unable to refine, crop, adjust and finally upload to sites which of course "start menu" does not help with ! I am hoping for a relevant steer from this forum.
