To all end users testing Windows 8: Please vote on the poll and make any suggestions you wish. Any non-members reading this, please take a moment to sign up to the forums so you can let your voice be heard and vote too.
A brief open letter to Microsoft:
Please take into consideration the large percentage of people that are not happy with Windows 8 and the future changes that we've been made aware of through blogs. It is clear and evident that the operating system was designed for touch-based hardware and does not belong on a desktop pc.
The Charms bar pops up all the time when I don't want it to, while doing other things.
Metro is not the kind of environment that is conductive to computing on a desktop or laptop. As an engineering type of mindset that I have, it is clear that Windows 8 is attempting to fix something that is not broken. And we very well know here that things should be made as simple as possible for efficiency, but definitely not simpler.
The choice of signing on to the operating system with a Microsoft account in the cloud is also a poor choice for any user when a local account is surely the way to go. Data privacy and simply being in control of one's own data is more important in computing than Microsoft getting a hold of all this information that it doesn't need to have.
I was a major supporter of the Windows 7 operating system from early in the beta phase up until now, inclusive. I can not support Windows 8 in its current state and that is why I am imploring your company to do better. Even worse, removing Aero Glass is a huge mistake as I see it.
One thing that is quite obvious is that users want choice. Please do not force Metro on everyone and instead, give the end user a choice to disable it completely. Choice has always been a strong suit of Windows. Because of being such a large company, I'd imagine you have some of the brightest minds working on the development of Windows 8. Let some of these folks have a say, because I am sure the final result will be a lot better than how it is now.
I would like to congratulate the company on making all versions of Windows as stable and well-running as they are. In this area, there is perfection and that is something I am thankful for on behalf of the computing community.
In closing, I don't expect my humble letter here to change anything, but as a computing enthusiast, I really hope for it. Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
GMan
