Windows Boots Up Too Quickly

As the title says, Windows is booting up too quickly (not a joke) with this SSD, UEFI system. The problem isn't exactly that, more that I have "special folders" on a standard HDD, but they're not being recognised in time, saying that the folders don't exist. (until I refresh the desktop or log out then back in) It's simply as though the computer is booting too fast. It's awesome, but I need these other folders. (documents, music, downloads, desktop, etc) Any ideas?

If I enable a password (I figured that would slow it down) for my local account, it work fine, picking up the locations of the system folders, but the moment I disabled the password and restarted, it was back to the error that the folders cannot be found.

If I could just get it to pick up these special folders properly, I'd never need to suspend or hibernate again, because it's just insanely fast.

You could try disabling "FastStartup" -- which is not the same as "fast boot". This is a new form of hibernation designed to speed up Rebooting. Don't know if that will slow it down enough for you or not.

How old is the standard hard drive? Is it SATA? 2.5 inch drive or 3.5 inch drive? I have an SSD and spinner in my desktop PC that I use everyday. My user folders Documents, Pictures etc are on the spinner and Windows is on the SSD. I've never had issues like that, kind of sounds like the drive may be failing? You may want to backup what's on it if you haven't already.

Interesting - I just shutdown the computer, then booted it back up, and it actaully worked just fine. I think, before, it was when I was restarting.

Just timed it and from a complete off, from pressing the power button to Windows being logged in and most things being loaded (some things are on the HDD, like Steam) is about 27 seconds, just timed it. Dunno where I got under 10 seconds from, unless I was thinking of restart. I seem to recall reading something about Windows 8.1 having good restart times, so perhaps that's why.

Not that old. A bit over a year, perhaps. The drive is "OK" according SMART and I've had no other signs of problems with it; it's generally been good to me. The drive's a SATA (dunno which one) 3.5".

Personally, I turn Windows Fast Startup off. I have SSD's in all my PC's so boot time is not an issue. Plus the hybrid sleep mode used by Fast Startup can cause issues. Accessing your BIOS on boot up for instance. For me on my laptop, if Fast Startup is on I can't access my BIOS on boot up, turn it off, no problem. Just my 2 cents.
It sounds like either the drive is slow to start up or its not getting initialized quick enough for Windows. Just a guess really, this is the first I've heard of an issue like you describe. If it was me I'd check all my cables to that drive to make sure they are plugged in firmly. maybe even try a different SATA cable.
3.5 desktop drives are normally 7200 RPM drives while the smaller 2.5 inch laptop drives are usually slower 5400 RPM drives. The slower drive shouldn't be an issue, I was just trying to get as many facts as possible. If your second drive was an old laptop drive It would have been the prim suspect in my books.
