Hi, Ive been given a PC which will not boot, the error is as the title. Ive tried the bootrec /rebuildbcd but I get a message saying 'the requested system device cannot be found', there is only 1 hdd in the pc so im stumped as to why it cannot rebuild the bcd but it knows there is a Windows installation there.
Does anyone have an idea what might be going on here?

I have tried the bootrec.exe tool and on the final command I get 'the requested system device cannot be found'.
Next I tried 'bcdedit /export C:\BCD_Backup' command but then I get 'the requested system device cannot be found'
I cloned the drive and tried to reinstall the OS via the recovery disc with the aim to copy all the start up files and insert them onto the main drive using Linux but when I tried to install win 8 it said it cannot be installed on a GPT disc. Win 8 is on the original disc which is classed as a GPT. would I need to erase the disc, install Win 8 via MBR then convert it to GPT?
Regards
Darren
