    Windows Action Center weird behavior

    Hello,

There is a weird issue with the flag symbol of the Action Center at the notification area:
The flag has a red X on it, and it says : "Solve PC issues: 2 important messages",
when I click on it I see these 2 messages:
-Spyware and unwanted software protection (important)
    -Turn on virus protection (important)

When I click on either of these messages, it opens "system32" folder and nothing else happens.

By the way, my antivirus and anti-malware are both showing that they run without problems : I'm using Avira and I'm still during the trial period of MBAM full version.

    What is the problem?

    Thanks

Verify that you have not temporarily disabled your anti virus program. You may have to uninstall and reinstall Avira.

Do you have the Real Time Malwarebytes Protection turned ON? If so you might try turning off the Real Time Protection as it may have a conflict with Avira as you should not have two different types of AV running simultaneously. I have both Norton Internet Security as well as the full version of Malwarebytes (the PRO version) on my desktop and if I have both turned on I do get some minor issues, not full crashes or freezes or anything but errors. I use MB primarily as a scanner. Norton is my primary AV.

    Thanks!
I did a few "Updates and restarts" and it disappeared

**Update : 10 seconds after writing this message, the problem returned.

**Update 2: I realized that the problem is that "Windows defender" is turned off... Does that mean that Avira is turning it off?

Windows Defender is automatically turned off when you install another anti virus program like Avira. You cannot have two av programs running at the same time.

I sometimes get these warnings in Action Centre, but when I check, my AV and Firewall are working. In my case it seems to be that something doesn't load properly at Startup. Rebooting generally solves the problem (though I see it came back for you after a reboot).

Yes, it did came back. It's weird, because if, as you said, an anti virus program turns Windows defender off, it should replace it with its own protection, no?
I mean, when I had another anti virus I didn't get this message (Had Avast before, maybe I should return to Avast then). But from the Action Center it seems like nothing is protecting my PC now, not Defender, and not Avira.
And what's with the system32 folder opening when I click on "Turn on now"?

Uninstall Avira using their removal tool and go back to Avast. If you no longer have problems then Avira is the culprit.

I also tried clicking to turn the AV and firewall on in the Action Centre, but nothing happened at all - I didn't see the system 32 folder.

Each time it happened to me I checked and my antivirus was definitely active. Also I could see that it had updated itself very recently, another indication that it was active. Certainly in my case it was an issue that disappeared on reboot.

And you are correct: if you install an AV that turns Defender off; if you uninstall, Defender should automatically turn on again (in my experience anyhow).

If you are absolutely sure and there is an indicator in the system tray to show your AV is up and running, you can also go to Action Center>Change Action Center settings and disable Virus Protection warnings in Security Messages.
