    Major Issues After System Restore

My problems all started when I went through the google chrome options and accidentally deleted Profile 1, which deleted all of my bookmarks, saved passwords, history, and basically everything saved on chrome. In my attempt to rescue all of that information I did a system recovery and restored back to a point a few days ago. This of course did not work since, as I discovered, the restore does not affect personal files. So I just decided to undo the restore and revert back to what I had. All of my chrome information is gone now. HOWEVER, now none of my start up programs actually start now. Many other programs do not function properly, such as adobe reader which freezes and does not respond every two seconds even after installing an update. Chrome is also messed up now and none of the extensions work nor does it save any new settings.

From there I tried to install windows updates and graphics drivers through windows optional and recommended updates. This solved nothing and now all of the sudden itunes does not work and says it has missing files and needs to be re installed.

I have a dell inspiron 17r se and running windows 8. Does anyone know how to fix any this without completely cleaning my hard drive?

Idk if this adds anything or is helpful but none of the dell drivers work properly, such as dell touchpad. I reinstalled it and it always seems to fail to start up and work.

OK so i think Ive narrowed it down a bit more. I did a virus scan and it removed a few things that I think contributed to the issues. When I startup I see the startup programs starting however after about 10 seconds a blank blue screen pops up. Then after a bit the desktop reappears and reloads this time without the startup programs or drivers. When I restart and pull up the task manager, a window will pop up that say something like "windows explorer encountered a hard error" When I click ok it does the blue screen thing again. Ive tried multiple ways of fixing this such as system restore from the command prompt but it didnt seem to help despite solving a few registry errors.

I hope someone can help me fix this annoying problem.

    Hello,

Open an elevated cmd prompt and run sfc /scannow. If it reports that it cannot fix errors, please post the logfile C:\Windows\logs\cbs\cbs.log. It can sometimes help to run this multiple times, rebooting between each time.

    Run---

    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

    first.
    Then sfc.

I did the restorehealth and it said the component store corruption was repaired. Then did sfc and it said that it did not find any integrity violations. I then restarted and the problem still persists.

I would either go back to an earlier restore point or do a refresh.

    Refresh Windows 8

And for the future I would recommend frequent imaging.
