They cannot go, because they are there for the OS. Just do the repair install of Windows 8 and move on. There are more things to worry about, than this. GParted is a Linux tool for working with drives & partitions. If you were to install a fresh OS, you would have to use a OEM version from someplace like newegg.com. The Dell version will never work with a non Dell bios/motherboard.

you must seriously not read as this is a non dell OS a retail copy of win 8.1 pro and a non dell mobo, this is leftover stuff i neglected to remove when i did a install years ago and now i just wish to remove them, they don't pertain to my OS at all they are old leftover from win 7 and when i had a full dell machine, the dell utility is old stuff pertaining to my old motherboard, and the old recovery is old win 7 oem that is no longer here at all, can someone besides the person who does not read reply please. I would like help in recovering this space as this is old old stuff not even relevant to my system at this time, stupid me when i did this win 8 pro i did a upgrade instead of a full install, so this is old old not needed stuff i want gone.

Again you cannot remove those partitions, case closed. They are not leftover partitions. They are a part of the install from Windows 8. Even with Windows 7, if it is an OEM installed edition or one you install yourself. It can be set up to create a recovery install by design of the software on the DVD.

You can really do what ever you want, it is your computer after all. I do not want to see you come back telling us that your OS is broke, because you removed those two partitions that are needed by the OS.

My Windows are happily running on one partition only, problems can be solved by using full system backup with Macrium Reflect so no backup or other partitions are needed.
Your main problem is that C: partition is located almost at the end, can't extend C: to the partitions at the front of it. Backing up whole disk or just data files and starting from scratch may be best option.

I don't know if this would work: how about making those two partitions 1 partition and using migration software migrate c to the new partition? Could/Would that work...just brainstorming:think:.

Hey CountMike what about removing the contents of these two partitions formatting them and merging them into one partition and use it for extra storage would it work? Also is win 10 officially supported in like chipsets and stuff right now ?

Just right click on the partitions and click delete volume. If you do it on both it will merge them as unallocated space. Then right click and format them. That will wipe them clean. Extra data space.

I choose not to use Windows 10 as there is no final release as of yet. I do not like using a beta version of windows as a primary operating system.

That could be done too, Win 10 although a "Beta" or TP as MS put it, is not too different from W8/8.1 and is quite stable my only wrries is what they are to do next that might change the conditions.

That's a utility partition for Dell PCs and laptops, if you are not using the drive in its original configuration, then you can delete it with utilities like minitool partition wizard. The Recover D partition is a repair partition specific to the original laptop or PC, if you have replaced the MB with anything but an identical MB, then you can never use that again.

My guess is that these partitions are placed at the beginning of the drive, if that is true then you will have to wipe the whole drive- or move your OS/system partition to a new drive, you will have to include any partitions windows 8 created, which is usually a roughly 104mb partition at the very end of the drive with the boot loader on it.

I have also seen windows 8 drives where this 100mb partition is missing. If it's there, move it with the system partition.

I have run across drives just like how you describe, and in copying them to a new system, or moving the drive to a new system, they are practically impossible to remove if they are located before the system partition. That's why I always keep a terabyte drive sitting around blank so I can dupe the proper partitions to that and then copy them back to the drive after I completely reformat it.

Sorry for the late reply i was on extended vacation and not at home so your saying i can't just delete these and merge into one and just use it like it is? i will have to do the whole operating system over again? dang i was hoping to just delete them and make it the same partition D and just use it like for extra space. if this is at all possible let me no thank you and again so sorry for the late reply.

This will make a factory recovery USB and once it completes - you are usually given the option to delete the recovery image partition.. in your case you will not be given that option because of your partition layout..

that 40MB Dell utility is a Dell Diagnostics partition and that Un-needed GUI is available on CD
