I was setting up my new machine, 8.1 plus Classic Shell. Tiny copies of every Desktop icon I had set up appeared in a block, to the right of the Taskbar. I had to switch off, and on rebooting later, I cannot find how to remove them!

It should be in the settings of Classic Shell. Or you should be able to right click and choose "Delete".

broe23: thank you for your response on such a small item, which I felt almost silly asking about.
But Classic Shell didn't seem to cover it. And deleting single items also deleted the full-size icon on the Desktop.
So I tried just rebooting. And to my surprise, that worked! Duh...
