Downloading Media Center

Learning that my beloved Windows 7 Home Basic Edition and my XP Home Edition do not include Media Center, I set out to download them. MS assures us that the 7 Edition is free...if I pay to upgrade to a higher version of 7. I'm about to try XP, but I have a question.

It is reported that the Win 8 Preview Edition includes Media Center. Where is it? Thank you.

I'm posting from Win XP. The CNET download site is getting ripped apart in Users' Reviews for posting that they have a free link to download WMC. It is free...if you pay to upgrade to Windows 7, and it has to be one of the higher editions.

Folks, I've using XP and/or 7 for years, and I have never had WMC. You don't need it.

You can search for it from the Metro Start page - look for Windows Media Centre. The actual file is found at

%windir%\ehome\ehshell.exe

I found it. Set-up wouldn't let me use my mouse, and I had to shut down my computer to get out of it. I'll try working with it, but I don't think it's any big deal.

Alt+F4 will close WMC if you need to use that, when trying.

Did you install the driver for your mouse, from the manufacturer's site?

My mouse has the latest MS driver. I have returned to WMC, and it is still trapped in set-up, and I have to shut it down to get out. I might try plugging in some of my old mouses to see if one of them will work.

Gman, I hadn't thought of checking to manufacturer to see if they have a newer driver, and I'll try that.
