download and create windows 8.1 setup media > Create installation media for Windows 8.1 - Windows Help

Clean install windows 8.1 using your windows 8 product key..

Quickset does not really pop up a GUI - but allows you to use FN keys.. If you look on your keyboard you may notice a Radio wave symbol.. Clam shell looking thing.. FN - Radio key should enable disable radio.. My dell has a switch on the lower left corner..

I have had issues before with dell drivers and win8 vs. win 8.1

QuickSet just has to be installed and running. You may not even see it as try icon, just in your task manager.
One way you can check if it's running properly is to try out the other Fn+ keys, like volume control, search and so on.
Then if it works just press Fn+PrtScr. Press it multiple times if you have to.
Also, restarting is always useful.

Softwaremaniac here is the thing im replying to you on my macbook pro cause i cant connect to internet on my dell. how do i do that ?

Kyhi Yeah i thought il do that cause even my trackpad doesnt work, dell says they have touchpad drivers on 8.1 but i thought i could connect to the internet and then sort it out . and yeah i have that wireless icon on my PRTSCR.

And yeah my bad i didnt know that quickset isnt a GUI.

Bob marley yes i have tried the fn keys they work but fn + prtscr doesnt do anything , let me try restarting once.

I do not install quickset - as the keyboard volume, sleep and brightness keys work with out it.. the battery and radio key do not..

I had a similar problem a few days ago. I just restarted quickset a few times, restarted the computer a few times and clicked that wifi button many times and suddenly it started working so don't be quick to reinstall win.
Make sure your wifi driver is working properly. Check in device manager.
Also what is the situation with your airplane mode? you can see that when you left click on the network try icon. Dell has an airplane mode driver that's newer than the one that windows installs. You might want to update that.

PS: Quickset does have a GUI for me, it looks sort of like this - http://en.community.dell.com/cfs-fi...nts.Files/3324/1157.windowsmobilitycenter.jpg

You are gonna end up upgrading to windows 8.1 anyway.. via the store or windows updates..

I would just do away with windows 8

media creation tool work win 7 or better - doubt it will work with mac (you can try)

Also some new dell drivers also list "other driver versions" available..

Try an older version, not newer..

Download the utility on Mac and transfer it via usb to the laptop. Generate a zipped report and transfer it back to mac and upload it.
