    Some File History Missing

I recently had occasion to restore a drive image to correct a registry problem. This was done by booting to a PE environment, then restoring a Macrium Reflect image from a previous date. The image restore worked and brought the OS drive back to a date 11 days prior. All was well but, I later found that the files in file history, on 3 separate usb portable drives, were missing between the restore date and the current date. Any ideas why the restore process should affect the files in file history on a differently identified drive?

When you say "file history" exactly what are you referring to? Recent files in an editor? Previous versions of files?

If the actual files are not on the system partition it's possible the details could still be kept in the registry. That would be set back to the state of the image save date when restoring a system image.

If you have the paid version of Macrium I would post on their support forum if you cannot find the answer there. They only allow licensed users to post. But the question may have been answered already.

Thanks. I certainly will get the paid version. The free version saved my butt and I can't say enough good things about it. Both the USB rescue and the image were done with Reflect.

I just got the new v 6 Standard Server edition. It does seem a bit quicker writing the system partition image than 5 Standard. Or maybe I'm comparing it to the free v 5. I don't think I did a 5 Standard image save but upgraded from 4.2 so as to get the new v. 6 for the upgrade price.

There is also a free tool ShadowExplorer that lets you extract individual files from restore points. The UI is a lot like a file undelete program. If you have some restore points from the missing dates it may be able to dig out some of the files for you. I've used it since Vista. A very nice freeware utility.

    Solved ??

With your help, and the help of Paul T over in the Windows Secrets forum, I think we have this figured out. I went into the File History backup drive via the Windows Explorer and drilled until I found the backed up versions of the files and they were all there for the "missing" period. Like deleting a file on the OS drive, but it's still physically there, the File History database on the OS drive had a lapse of memory between 01/31 & 02/10 and couldn't see the files. I have not tried restoring 1 file from the "back door" method, but I will, just for the heck of it, and see what happens

    Thanks to all
