I have encountered it during gaming, internet browsing (curiously it pauses the youtube video while stuttering, but immediately resumes after it ends), google drive, and I have not done much else while this issue has been an issue.

I don't know what is wrong with your system, but maybe try booting it into safe mode and see if the problem goes away - there is a tutorial for enabling safe mode somewhere on this site.

If it does go away in safe mode, that might help to figure out what is going wrong.

Another option you might want to consider is System Restore, to before the updates were installed- assuming you had system restore enabled.

    Hello All,

I've exactly the same behaviour as PaleWaffle described, It happend after a 22 windows update.

I've tried to remove them all, no fix.
Reinstall the soundmax drivers, no fix
Reinstall the nvidia drivers, no fix

This is happening when watching a video (youtube or VLC) it's also happening when listening only to music (Mp3 playing)

I've also noticed that my SSD drive with Intel Rapid Store was stopped. I guess was due to an update that try to make the system more compatible to do the 8.1 upgrade ( This auto upgrade, is not working at all on this dell computer)

    Hello All,

I think I've found the issue.

Dell install a new software Dell SupportAssist Agent that seems not to be the most stable.

If you look at the installation date of that software and if it's correspond to the appear of the issue, then unistall it and for me it's seems to be the issue.

It's seems that software messus also other dell computers: Why launches Dell bloatware in Alien such as Dell Support Assist Agent Version and Dell data vault ? | NotebookReview

    Confirmed on dell forum:

I checked, both Dell SupportAssist and Dell SupportAssistAgent were installed. I uninstalled both of them, so far I haven't experienced any more stutters, but it is too soon to be sure.

    Thank you in advance

My main monitor, an iiyama 24 inch, is 60 hz - res 1920 x 1080 on 2GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 750 Ti - DVI, mHDMI, VGA - no problems at all visually. Laptop res is 1366 x 768 at 60hz; on ATI Radeon HD4200 - again on problem. I can run stuff off screen whilst gaming on either.

I have been having a similar issue, though just noticing the noisy fan for a couple of seconds during startup; nothing audio or video related that I've noticed.

Today I saw that Dell Data Vault had appeared in Task Manager simultaneously with the fan noise. And I know this only started a couple of days ago, which is also consistent with when Data Vault and SupportAssist were automatically installed on my laptop.

I did post about this on the Dell forum, but there has been no response from Dell (not a big surprise).

I think it is uninstall time, though reading posts on the link in @betsatanas's post above, I'm not sure if this will deal with Data Vault, so maybe I'll be doing a restore or refresh.

The shame is I actually liked My Dell, which was replaced by these programs .
