    Unusal Occurrence - black screen

    Hello to all,
I have my machine on balanced power mode. It shuts down the monitor at 15 minutes. Well I don't know how long it was off, possibly for a hour and when I moved the mouse, the screen stayed off. The monitor was without signal. I tried hitting various key and nothing would make it come back up. This is the first time this has happened, I powered down and restarted, got no error messages and just logged back in to do this post. Does anyone have any ideas as to why this occurred? Should I be nervous?? Thanks for any assistance!
    Glenn

You're welcome to run the tool in the top thread (and its linked thread) of Crash subforum to make the zip how they show, then attach here.

We'll clean up all issues and that in turn, will fix this problem.

Unfortunately, receiving a black screen, after being turned off via the power options, has been a problem, for some, for several years and as far as I know, there's no single fix. However, there are various things you can try.

    1. Disabling 'real-time', third-party Antivirus/Antimalware applications
    2. Making changes to the ACPI settings in the BIOS
    3. Control Panel/Power Options/Change Advanced Power Options, change the PCI Express Link State Power Management to "Maximum Power Savings".

Out of curiosity, are you running a notebook or a desktop PC?

I only got to take a quick look at the top of this section of the forum and didn't see it. Will look harder tomorrow!
    Thanks

    Howdy Calico,
I decided to dump my norton and try the WFirewall and WD for a while. So that shouldn't be the problem. I am running a desktop. I've never run into this issue before, so whatever the ACPI settings are, well they were the optimized. Don't know enough about that to fiddle. I'll look for that CP option and see what it says. Thanks for the response and advice!

Likely a driver issue. When I see info requested, I can give my analysis.

In the meantime and in between time, recommend latest bios update installed and then after, set Optimized Defaults in it then save.

The ACPI settings will depend on your Motherboard/BIOS. If you can tell us the Motherboard make/model and BIOS version we can see what sort of settings are available.

    Hello Calico,
I found the setting you mentioned in the CP>Power Options>etc. and it is already set at maximum power savings. Now I have the computer under a custom balanced power setting of monitor off - 20 minutes and Hardrive off - Never. Appreciate your time!
