Win8SE boot disk build fails with error

Using Win8PESE80_builder.exe (also 82_builder.exe), trying to build Win8pe boot iso using Win8 pro retail downloaded ISO as the source (files copied from iso to HD folder).

I receive the error in the screenshot just after starting the build.

For those using google, error text is:

Can not detect windows 8 source!!!
You must select a folder with Windows 8 files in the 'Source Directory'

I did find one post at stating that source containing the file install.esd would not work as the file is encrypted, but that is the only reference to that.

Is anyone familiar with why this error occurs and how to work-around? I have no problem building from a win7 pro source.

you have selected L as your source directory?

look inside that \sources\ folder - do you have an install.wim or install.esd

Since this is the downloaded ISO, I can say for sure it is an install.esd - thus can not be mounted by winbuilder

Hi KYHI. Thanks for the response. Yes, the install.esd exists.

Convert it to a wim, then.

Thanks for your inputs, KYHI and SIW2. And thanks, KYHI, for the and your tutorial on creating the install.wim from the install.esd. The process went smoothly and I was able to create the win8se disk. Problem solved. Again, thanks!
