Dual Boot (Win 7 + Win 8.1)

Now I will take about 50 GB off from the D partition and create a new partition (no idea what will Windows 7 name it, G or maybe I). Then I would install Windows 8.1 on that partition. But Windows 8.1 also creates an additional no-name (hidden) 300 MB partition. Will the space for that particular partition be taken from the 50 GB that I will dedicate for Windows 8.1? Could that 300 MB hidden partition in any way interfere with the 100 MB hidden Windows 7 partition? I don't want that of course.
Those "invisible" (actually without letter) partitions will not interfere but the new one may be made at the end of drive.

What would that mean for me - that the new 300 MB (hidden) partition would be made at the end of the drive? Will I be able to reclaim that space when I delete Windows 8.1?

Sure, you'll be able, no problem, you can do it after installation too if you are not planing to restore from it.

OK, thank you for all the great help. I'll install Windows 8.1 when I find some time and I hope all will go good. Again, thanx!

    Windows XP and 8.1

Name one partition Win7 and the other name Win8. You can change drives letters to something else.
I have a PC with XP on primary, along with a Logical D: drive as well as F: drive (named Windows 8.1) I named my normal XP drive/partition XP_Pro. When I am in Windows 8.1 I could see the xp partition as I named it a "recognizable" name. I changed the drive letter to "Q" and I also renamed the other drive letters accordingly, like I had them in Windows XP. You can see and use them all. When booted into XP I see all my hard drives and the 3 partitions of drive 0 and see the "F:" partition as "Windows8.1" Keeps things straight that way and no need to hide drive letters or partitions.

This happened about two days ago. By going in chronological order: I used to have a dual-boot setup, a Windows 7 and Windows 8 on two different IDE 80GB hard drives, named Drive A and Drive B, respectively. Both of these hard drives are quite old, and I'm worried that it may be near the end of...
