Unable To Take Ownership Of A System 32 File

    Hi guys..

    I'm trying to modifying a system 32 file i.e. twinui.dll.mui in Windows 8 CP.

I already taken the ownership of the file using Brink's tutorial. But when I edited the file with Resource Hacker and after tweaking and compiling script, I'm unable to save this file. Here is what I'm getting:

How can I save this file to same location after modifying it. Any help would be appreciated.

Appologies if same thread exist, link me if so

    Hello Kapilarya,

By default in Windows, you cannot save anything directly into a system folder.

You would need to save it to say your desktop first. Afterwards, you should be able to copy and paste the file from your desktop into the System32 folder.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

Thanks Brink, I done what you said, and also it worked.

I need one more help here... As we know twinui.dll.mui is the file responsible for all the metro stuff in Windows 8.

When I edited it and replaced the default file with tweaked file, after reboot, system lost all the metro. Also when I log in it directly bring me to desktop instead of Start Screen.

So my query is that placing a simple tweaked file lost all the metro stuff.. strange???

lol (at the situation and my above post)

But if what you are saying is true, you are a true pioneer of figuring out how to disable the Start Menu at boot!!!

Possible to attach this edited dll.mui to a post here?

Yes I wonder how it happens..

So you can directly boot to desktop and I think I've got it accidentally !!!

But the only problem is that explorer becomes like you are running pirated version of Windows .. LOlz

By that I mean Windows lost all the Metro style...

The taskbar removes everything on itself and you have black screen every time

Oh that's unfortunate. Yeah yeah...that's easy to make it all happen like that. I thought you made it where everything works well otherwise. No pioneer, sorry. lol

It's possible your tweaks corrupted the .mui file, basically making any GUI elements dependent on it unable to load.
