I have Skydrvie folder in Win 8.1, should be Onedrive

    Hello to everybody,

I have this Skydrive folder in my user folder, Skydrive shouldn't exist anymore but I still have it as a folder in Windows 8.1 and even it replaces my original Onedrive folder with the blue cloud logo, meaning Onedrive sub-folders are being contained in this Skydrive folder.

Does someone know why would this happen and how I can fix this.

    Many thanks

A typical Microsoft glitch. I would send this to their engineers, so that they can look into the problem.

I got this when I upgraded from 8 to 8.1 (I think it was that upgrade, could have been 8.1 update).

A new OneDrive folder was created and synched with the cloud leaving a duplicate orphaned SkyDrive. Once it had finished synching I renamed and then deleted the SkyDrive folder with no apparent ill effects. Do make sure everything is in OneDrive folder though and you have a backup - you don't want it to synch the delete operation. It didn't for me but better to be safe - that is why I renamed the SkyDrive before deleting..

The thing is that I did a clean install of Win 8.1, so I assume that there should't be a Skydrive folder at all, this might be coming from my old Win 7 that I don't use anymore.

Then I suggest you rename it "Old SkyDrive" or something and just leave it on disk for a day. If nothing bad happens (like it tries to delete everything from OneDrive) then delete it. Make a check that OneDrive is synching by putting one file in it and see if you can see it on the OneDrive web access.

Seems it was 8.1 update 1 in March last year when the name change occurred (not plain 8.1) according to this thread Onedrive still points to Skydrive in Location.

It was SkyDrive with Windows 8.1, hence the SkyDrive folder, this Laptop was installed with Windows 8.1 when new. After Windows updates and Windows Store updates to the App, then it changed to OneDrive.

In my case there is no old SkyDrive folder left.

From what I recall you have to update the App as well from the Windows Store. These updates only seem to be flagged up when using the Windows Store App, which itself will need updating.

Obviously if you buy Windows 8.1 now it will have, or should have, the updates incorporated.
